Very Nice Pocket Watch, September 16, 2011
This review is from: Charles-Hubert, Paris Gold-Plated Automatic Pocket Watch (Watch)
Pros:
- This watch is automatic. No battery needed, and it will wind itself through kinetic energy. If you carry this watch with you every day, you will rarely have to wind it.
- The window in the front along with the markings make looking at your watch quick if you need to know how close to the hour you are.
- The small window in the back is a nice added touch to take a look at the inner-workings of the watch, and to make sure the watch is winding as per the free spinning weight in it.
- Keeps time extremely accurate. In a 7 day time period, the watch was only 30 seconds ahead (After calibrating it to my phone).
- Great price point for being an automatic watch.
Cons:
- The latch on the chain you use to attach the watch to the chain is very flimsy, and will sometimes come disconnected from the watch. I would suggest purchasing a chain seperately, one you can securely attach the watch to.
- The ring over the stem is large enough to swivel in the way of closing the watch face cover.
- There is really no way of knowing if the watch is wound enough for the day, other than to trust that the watch is winding itself enough through kinetic movement.
- I do know how water tight this watch is, as I typically will not test it (Most well made mechanical watches ARE water tight to prevent particulates from interfering with the movement. That being said, I would have liked to have seen a marking of some type confirming it is water tight, however it was not present).
Other Thoughts:
I do like this watch, and would most certainly purchase another one of these in the event the one I have breaks. You do not need to replace any batteries, and for the most part, you hardly should ever have to wind it (Unless you do not carry it with you for an extended period of time). The packaging and box presentation make this a great idea for a gift, as it looks very elegant and well put together. I am giving this watch a 4 out of 5, mainly for the ring getting in the way of shutting the watch face cover. Its not that big of a issue, however if you don't notice it when you go to shut it, then you could potentially lose the cover or scuff it up.
Basic Features:
- 22 Jewels
- Comes with a chain with will clip to your belt or vest.
- Roman Numeral face and cover.
- Automatic Watch; No need to wind every day, no need to replace a battery.
- Has the day of the month on the watch.
- Shows Night a Day, in case you are in a place with no windows.
- The second hand is on its own dial.
- Window in front makes the watch readable when closed.
- Neat window in the back to see the clockwork in motion.
- Packaged neatly and presented well.

OK watch except for ...., October 29, 2011
This review is from: Charles-Hubert, Paris Gold-Plated Automatic Pocket Watch (Watch)
The watch is physically nice. It is a trace thicker that other pocket watches I have had and a bit heavier; but I like these characteristics. The face is faux oyster/sea shell. It runs slightly fast (gains a minute every two or three days), but this is adjustable by a jeweler. The reason for only three stars is that the date window is defective. The numerical squence is 00 - 21, 3st, 12 - 19; back to 00 etc., which is a sequence of 31. I do not plan to return it.
UPDATE: 1-25-12 Downgraded from 3 stars to 2 stars.
The self wind feature does not work. The rear window of the case shows a pendulum that should rotate on a shaft as the watch changes position. The pendulum barely moves even when the watch is held so that the pendulum is upside down (the weight is ABOVE the shaft, and should fall to the lower position thus rotating the shafte for winding action).
AND their is no resistance or sense of the spring getting tight when the watch is wound. I can not tell when to stop winding, so I just wind for about a minute. All said and done, the watch does keep time.
