5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Watch
My first Amazon review - normally wouldn't write one, but couldn't let this great watch go by with just a one star rating.

Yes, the instructions says wind 30-40, but HALF-TURNS. That is 15 full turns. I don't like winding a watch fully, I wind this one 10 half-turns each morning. I almost missed in the directions on how to close the watch - depress the...

Junk. The instructions said to wind 30-40 times or until there was resistance. I wound it about 60 times and never felt any resistance. It worked for less than 10 minutes. I wound it about 100 times, still without any resistance and it barely kept time for 20 minutes. I have another mechanical pocket watch and it doesn't require winding every 15 to 20 minutes. This...

I almost missed in the directions on how to close the watch - depress the release mechanism, close the lid, and then release the button. This way the clasp won't get damaged.

Assuming that the previous reviewer didn't over wind their watch, this watch has a lifetime warranty for the movement against defects.

Nowhere does the watch or paperwork say anything about the country of origin. From China? Possibly, but I have had Chinese movements that have bested the movement of my one expensive Swiss watch.

This watch isn't no lightweight either. It's made of brass which is heavier than steel. It's got just the right heft to it.

The pictures don't do this watch justice - it is just beautiful. Not gaudy or flashy and comes in a nice presentation box. Looks like the back can be engraved easily. The hands glow in the dark, although how much "charge" it can get in your pocket....The watch window is plastic, but the window on the cover appears to be glass.

I keep mine open on my desk at work. It sits very nicely and has a calming affect on me.

My advise? Get this watch and write an honest review - time to move it up in the ratings!

This is a fine modern pocket watch, beautiful to look at, comfortable in hand. It is a good timekeeper, requiring only minor adjustment. The movement is probably Chinese but it runs as smoothly as any other watch in my collection. I would recommend it. If only a Rolex will satisfy you, then this is not your watch, but if you desire an affordable, attractive mechanical pocket watch, then those is your pocket watch. It is mine. I wear it for daily use.

I purchased this watch as a gift for my father and was very pleased with the packaging, presentation, and the watch itself. It wound and ran fine right out of the box and I was very pleased with the clean, elegant design. My father was very happy to receive it and pocketed it immediately!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, excellent customer service, January 3, 2012

At first I had some problems with this watch, but the customer service at Unitron (parent company) was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the watch as a Christmas gift and received it on Dec. 15. There was a problem with the movement, which I unfortunately did not discover until after I had the back of the watch engraved. I called customer service and told them about the problem, stressing that because of the engraving, a replacement would not do. I was afraid they would tell me I had voided the warranty by having the watch engraved, but I could tell they were eager to help. They told me normal turn-around time for repairs is two weeks, but when I told them the watch was a Christmas gift, they expedited my order. I sent in the watch, which they received in California Dec. 19. Within two days it was fixed and returned to me all the way in Michigan. I am confident they would be just as helpful if there should there be another issue in the future.
The watch now works perfectly, and it is even more beautiful in person. My friend was very happy with the watch and said it was the best Christmas present he had gotten that year. I couldn't be happier with this purchase!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Charles-Hubert Paris Mechanical Pocket Watch, April 14, 2011

This review is from: Charles-Hubert, Paris Mechanical Pocket Watch (Watch)
I bought this watch from Amazon just over a month ago and have to say that I am more than satisfied with it. It's quite an attractive timepiece, and everyone I showed it to was impressed. As one reviewer pointed out, it does not keep perfect time. My watch gains about 30 seconds a day. But this is, in my opinion, to be expected of a mechanical watch in its price range, and does not affect my rating of the product. I would have given it five stars, but the lid does not latch securely enough and sometimes pops open when I don't want it to.

This watch is made in China, no where near "Paris," and it's going back to Amazon. I wanted a silver colored watch instead of gold but was feeling cheap so I bought this one. You won't be saving any money by purchasing this watch, it's not even heavy enough to use as a paper weight.
