Let me start off by saying that this is a good 3" tape dispenser for the money if you use it periodically. It's cheap, heavy and it does its job for the most part, which is to dispense 3" rolls of tape. However, I use this thing 50-100 times a day and I get frustrated 50-100 times (must be a sign of getting old). I package small items and use polyester tape to seal the items and after I tear off the tape, the tape on the roll does not stay on the serrated blade but instead it falls down. When time is not on your side and you need both of your hands, it gets frustrating after the 50th time. Just take my word for it :)

I did a little modifying to the blade by bending it and now it works as it should. I wish I would done this from the start to save myself all the grief.

I needed a weighted desk top tape dispenser for 1/2 inch wide drafting tape. I assumed that a three inch core would mean that it would accept whatever is a standard outside diameter for a roll of tape with a three inch core. As it turns out, I have a partially used roll of drafting tape that measures 4 3/4 inches in diameter and it drags the bottom and doesn't spin freely. Also, the three inch adapter is tapered so that the 3 inch inside diameter of the tape roll only gets snug as it is pressed all the way to one side. And, it is barely snug.

I suppose it's useable... but, barely. I guess it's better than paying $24.00 for the really nice one. Or, is it? It's OK... but you probably get what you pay for.

Mine arrived with gravel in the box. I immediately saw where it was coming from. The bottom of the dispenser was almost fully separated from the shell, and the gravel was pieces of the weighting material inside the tape dispenser. The dispenser is given weight by filling the shell with a concrete aggregate. In my case, the concrete mix was crumbly and porous- like it had not been properly mixed before pouring into the shell. For $8 it wasn't worth sending the dispenser back, and the loose ballast made it sound like gravel inside.

So I fully removed the bottom, easily tapped out the crumbly concrete pieces, then refilled it with a smooth mix of cement leveling compound to give it the weight. Once the cement cured, the bottom was glued back onto the shell. After rebuilding the defective product, I now have a good tape dispenser.

If it weren't for the lack of quality control in manufacturing, the dispenser is a good unit. Maybe I just happened to get the one being made during shift change.

I received this in the mail and some kind of grit was coming out of the box. When I opened it the tape dispenser was cracked and some kind of compound that was used as a filler was falling all over the place. They used that to make it 'heavy duty'. What a piece of crap, do not buy this product.

For $8 this tape dispenser works as well as any other tape dispensers that I have seen listed for $25 or more.

It arrived cracked, but it will work. Too much effort and time to send it back when I only paid $7 for the stupid thing. I am not sure when it got cracked, but the amazon box it arrived in was in perfect condition. The smaller Dispenser's box was all smashed up though inside the larger box. Maybe amazon received it like that but it seems like they should have refused it or at least opened the box to check before sending it to me.

I had to retrofit it to get it to work. the tape wouldn't spin, so I had to tape little pieces of plastic so the spool would spin. One star is too much for this piece of crud
