I've been slowly purchasing various editions of the Hal Leonard "Play-Along Jazz CD's" and have been enjoying them immensely. I have learned a lot. The Mingus edition is a serious disappointment. Unlike other volumes they have some studio musician playing solos during the improv sections. This kind of makes it hard to "play along" which sort of the defeats the purpose. Why they deviated from an otherwise successful format I can't really say. But fear not the other volumes are great learning tools and a lot of fun to boot.
