The amount of detail in this book can only be gleaned from the original documents of the time and has been arranged in meticulous order. The detail is quite compelling reading but at the same time the author has provided it in a very readable form and at the same time keeps one's attention. It is not a day by day description of the Court but melds all the financial intracacies combined with the duplicitous actions of members of Court in addition to the sexual connotations going on behind the scene. The book puts " plenty of meat on the bones" in describing Charles and also provides a great insight into his thought process, scheming and manipulation of all those around him. With the vivid memory of the regicide committed on his father he is very much aware of the capability of Parliament and the book very well sets out how he reigned over his people and manipulated the Parliament. A great read for history buffs and an excellent reference work for researchers and genealogists.
