This review is from: Charley Skedaddle - Teacher Guide by Novel Units, Inc. (Paperback)
We just finished reading a fantastic book about a 12 year old boy named, Charley. The book is called Charley Skedaddle. Charley went to fight in the Civil War to avenge his brother's death that happened in the battle of Gettysburg. In a parade in New York Charley meets up with one of his brother's friends, named Con. Con invites Charley to war. There he makes friends with someone named Jem and becomes enemies with Con. When Charley gets to camp he finds out that to be a soldier you have to be 16 years old. So Gormon, an old drummer boy, teaches Charley how to drum. In Charley's first battle he sees Jem die, so Charley runs away. Now Charley is on the run from both the Confederates and the Union. He meets people and has lots of adventures. Charley thinks that he is a coward because he ran away but regains his confidence after an exciting adventure. We like this book because it's exciting, interesting, terrific and a thrill to read. |
