Graham Allison a leading American defense expert speaks to Charlie Rose about his book on Nuclear Terrorism. He in the first part tells about how an act of Nuclear Terrorism is likely to occur. And he speaks in the second about the ways to prevent this.
This interview was made in August 2004. Rose very astutely asks him about the Iranian nuclear program. Remember this is a major expert on the subject. He says he expects Iran to have enriched uranium within a years time. Enrichment is the hardest part of the process in the producing of a bomb. What does this say about the National Intelligence Estimate of November 2007 which says that Iran though it continues with enrichment has stopped its nuclearization program. It says that the Intelligence Agencies have deceived themselves, the American public, the Bush Administration and everyone else.
In any case Allison is clear and forthright in assessing the nuclear terrorist threat. In the second part of the program he makes some suggestions about a 'deal' which might put an end to the proliferation threat. His suggestion seems to me wishful thinking.
Charlie Rose does his usual very good job in asking the right questions. He really is the best.
