4.0 out of 5 stars The Tom Wolfe segment, June 3, 2008
This review is from: Charlie Rose with Bernard Haykel, Louise Richardson & Shibley Telhami; Tom Wolfe. (November 10, 2004) (DVD)
Tom Wolfe comes to talk to Charlie Rose about his latest novel, 'I am Charlotte Simmons'. In the course of this he talks about the state of America, the blue- state, red- state division. Wolfe does not believe Iraq is a major factor in 2004 election. He does not believe the Presidential campaign of 2004 should have been so intensely promoted as it was. He talks about the long- term character of religious Americans. He talks about James Webb's 'discovery' of an important neglected ethnic group, the Scots- Irish. He talks about their concern about health- care, jobs.He talks about the Scots- Irish in southern Ohio as tough - fighting people whose support for Bush was crucial in his victory.
He says his new novel is an attempt to see college life from inside from the point- of- view of the students.
Wolfe is not as spectacular and flamboyant as in his heady youthful days but still makes good conversation with Charlie Rose.
