5.0 out of 5 stars Charlie Bone and the Red Knight
I have read this series, because I am giving them to my Grandson for Christmas. I found the ALL very entertaining and I think any child to adult would love them. This one is the final book in the series of the Red King. It needed to wrap-up the story line and did a very excellent job.

I would recommend this book for everyone .... boys and girls children to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Up Until the End
I was in love with this book. It was everything I wanted the final Charlie Bone book to be. Up until the end. Up until the very last chapter. Up until the very last sentence. Up until the very unsatisfactory ending. Don't get me wrong. The book is great. But all the ending does is to leave you wanting for more, which is a VERY bad thing to do, considering that this is THE...

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice!! :D, March 16, 2010
A Kid's Review
I have loved this series for a very long time, and I continue to do so! I am a bit upset that this series has ended, because these books mean a lot to me. In the final installment of the Children of the Red King series, Count Harken returns. I don't want to give it all away; you have to read it! The only thing was that I felt the ending was a little bit rushed. When I got to the end (in like 1 1/2 hours or so...I was excited), I was like "Oh, that's it?" I guess I was just expecting a bit more in the end. Otherwise, this book is great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat padded, June 7, 2010

The Charlie Bone series comes to its second conclusion in this book. The Bone series was originally intended to end after book 5 and indeed that book has a completely satisfying ending to the series. After book 5 the focus was intended to shift away from Charlie to other characters. Plans were changed and Charlie remained the focus. It was then intended that there be three additional books. The present book is the last and I regret to report somewhat of a disappointment.

Unlike other books in the series Charlie Bone and the Red Knight can't really be read as a stand alone book; it is actually the second part of Charlie Bone and the Shadow, the previous book in the series. One gets the impression that the story was expanded to fill two books and as a consequence feels somewhat padded. This is especially true of Charlie Bone and the Red Knight. Unlike other books in the series the various subplots don't really seem to gel together. Author Nimmo appears to be just tying up plot threads or introducing other twists just to fill pages. The most egregious example is the Olivia subplot. It just doesn't add much to the overall story.

The big climax itself had too much in common with the climax of book 5 to really be completely satisfying. Saying anything more would give too much away. One thing that can be said is that Nimmo has left much less to pick up on if she decides to continue the series than she did after book 5.

All that said I don't want to leave the impression that this is a bad book. It's not. I recommend it to kids of all ages as they say. If you're new to the series please start with the first book and work forward.

3.0 out of 5 stars Up Until the End, August 8, 2011
I was in love with this book. It was everything I wanted the final Charlie Bone book to be. Up until the end. Up until the very last chapter. Up until the very last sentence. Up until the very unsatisfactory ending. Don't get me wrong. The book is great. But all the ending does is to leave you wanting for more, which is a VERY bad thing to do, considering that this is THE FINAL BOOK. So yes, the only reason I am giving this book 3 stars instead of 5 is because of the ending. The ending of the ending. :(

This book was a great read and a great ending to the series. It wraps up the storyline well and leaves you with a smile on your face! I started reading the series to see if my girls would be interested and couldn't put them down! This was the perfect ending!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising!, July 21, 2011

The finale of the Charlie Bone series was surprising. I was sad the series had to come to an end after just eight books. I would just like to say that it was the best book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book, May 6, 2011

I love this series by Jenny Nimmo, I simply can't stop myself from reading again and again! However, I think this series is like, too short. I really think that there should be another book, for a 'real' ending. It's like Miss Nimmo is rushing to finish this book - there are some places when I thought that should be written more precisely, but she just finish it with like, 3 pages. I would say that the whole series was written fantastically, but you know, reading them is a kind of pleasure and if she would bother to explain and tell us more, it would be PERFECT. Still, I would recommend this book to all Charlie Bone readers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great finish to a great series, February 2, 2011

I am an adult who reads as many kids' book as adult books, and really enjoyed this series. My teenage niece did also. The characters are fun - a boy that can travel into pictures, one that controls weather, and one who can call up his ancestors. My favorite is one that blows up lights as he passes underneath them.

This is a good series for kids that might not be ready for the deadly endings of Harry Potter. Characters were fun and had more interesting "endowments" than simply being wizards or wiches. I enjoyed Harry Potter and don't agree with complaints about this being a bad imitation. About the only thing they share is the good vs. bad theme. Note - they should be read in order.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story with a lot a surprises!, November 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
All the Charlie Bone adventures have good vs. evil and there is always a surprise in Charlie's life. I really love the characters and their 'endowments' would recommend this book to adults as well (all those Harry Potter fans out there).
