Absolutely a masterpiece,
By moreheadmd@ibm.net (Bridgeport, WV) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Charlie Calvert's C++ Builder 3 Unleashed (Paperback)
Not a book for beginners, but absolutely the best book in my library. Every of the amazing number of examples is accompanied by a simple, elegant example which illustrates it so well. I've read this book twice already. If you know C++, it covers everything you need to know to program Builder.

A great book that really covers Builder. An excellent source for database and active x development within builder. Examples are clear, clean, and to the point. I recommend this book to all users of builder.

A book which I (and others in my workplace) have used extensively in the development of several projects to date. This IS the C++ Builder bible. The only gripe is that the book is so desirable it's often missing from my bookshelf...

Excellent book for the advanced user - take care of the CD,

An excellent book covering almost everything you'd ever want to do with Builder. Watch out for the CD though, many of the chapters come in Acrobat format on the CD and if you damage it, tough - Macmillan press will NOT replace it. If you only buy one book for Builder 3 make it this one.

Good but gathers dust,

This is a good book. It has topics for everyone, but it is for the more advanced user. I like database stuff (every jobs gotta have it) and this book spends enough time on that subject. I wish he would have got rid of this "on the CD" stuff that is included in the table of contents because it miss represents the topics in the book (give a table somewhere 'cause I didn't notice it when I bought it). I really liked the DirectX stuff.

An excellent book that covers just about everything,

This review is from: Charlie Calvert's C++ Builder 3 Unleashed (Paperback)
This book covers just about everything that a C++ Builder programmer is ever likely need. It starts off with the simpler stuff but the chapters I was particularly interested in covered the creation of components. I was not disappointed; indeed, the information on Property Editors literally rescued my project. The book is massive, with extra chapters on CD ROM. However, it is written in such a way that each chapter is self contained and you don't have to read it all to benefit from it. This book should is likely to become the C++ Builder Bible.

A collection of minds brings a bevy of knowledge.,

Don't let the hideous cover of this book fool you, its' true worth is revealed once perused. The content is well organized (even if some of the best chapters have been relegated to the CD-ROM) and there are plenty of those ever-so-needed code examples that are crutial for understanding the concepts presented. The different styles of the authors does not seem to affect the readablilty of the book, and each author seems to really know his area. I greatly enjoyed the concise background information about the various internet standards in chapter 23, and EarthPong rules! This book truely meets the cliche of being a "must have" for any developer interested in learning some of the finer aspects of C++Builder 3. Bravo!

This book starts off light and then calmly takes the reader deep into C++Builder3. It touches on every key base of C++Builder3 and can be considered the C++Builder3 handbook. Any person that owns C++Builder3 will find this book an essential resource.
