A segment like this shows Charlie Rose at his best. He is humane, considerate, understanding. He has feeling for the situation his guests are in, and does his best to make the experience a good one for them. For myself it was disconcerting to see the ever- fast - talking, non- stoppable Bob Hope as a very elderly gentleman speaking slowly in a very throaty voice. There is a certain sadness in these situations where one comes across one someone has known in a much more vital time of their life. Bob is slow but still funny, in his way. His wife Dolores who is there to plug an album she has done is also very respectable and good- natured. Like so many of his guests, the Hopes are Charlie Rose 'friends' He has interviewed Bob Hope many times before. The Hopes have raised four children together. Bob Hope has entertained more U.S. soldiers than anyone in history. There are the famous Road movies with Bing Crosby. There was at once a bit funny a bit sentimental and quite a bit sad conversation, for me anyway.
