5.0 out of 5 stars The Dershowitz segment, March 12, 2008
This review is from: Charlie Rose with Alan Dershowitz; Andre Previn; Mark Canton (November 27, 1998) (DVD)
I watched this in order to get a feeling of how the mind of a first- class legal scholar, Dershowitz works. His main point here is that two obsessed people, President Bill Clinton ( obsessed with sex) and Kenneth Starr( Obsessed with moral purity) brought the United States unnecessarily to the verge of a Constitiutional crisis. He faults the lawyer of President Clinton for not informing him and coaching him properly. According to Dershowitz Clinton should have defaulted the trial in which he testified and perjured himself. Had he defaulted there would have been two - days of press recrimination and back to business as usual. Instead Clinton's testimony led to increasing of the efforts towards his impeachment. Dershowitz makes the point that sexual impropriety is not an impeachable defense. He says that the individuals concerned are not his main matter but rather protecting the Constitution.
Dershowitz is convincing at least to someone like myself with little knowledge of the case, and no legal background.
Charlie Rose is as usual intelligent, and astute in asking the right questions and in general conducting of the interview.
