This review is from: Charlie Rose with Fareed Zakaria & Steven Weisman; Bill Joy, Jeff Taylor & John Doerr (November 16, 2004) (DVD)
When the hi- tech types get together the result is often somewhat boring. They often use their own special language it's hard to decipher. They discuss technical issues and devices the reader does not understand. They make predictions which most often prove off the wall. Here Doerr predicts that in five years 'Chinese' will be the major language of the Internet. So far as I know this has not happened and will not. The Chinese are rushing to learn English. Joy talks about new interfaces coming together, new networks of connections. He seems to foresee the stage where everything will be translatable into everything else, where one device will contain the world. All have the sense of the unprecedented changes taking place and the great mysterious significance of the 'Internet'. None though seems to really see where it is all going. Somehow the set- up of this conversation was not an easy one, and there was a certain awkwardness and discomfort in it all. I in any case did not perhaps get as much out of this conversation as I should have.
