4.0 out of 5 stars The Norris- Barbera segment on the Economy, March 24, 2008
This review is from: Charlie Rose -Floyd Norris & Robert Barbera / Philip Pullman (January11, 2008) (DVD)
This segment is devoted to the crisis in the economy. Both Norris and Barbera are knowledgeable commentators who attempt to give a broad- picture of what has been happening. One major point relates to the crisis in the housing- mortgage market. Much money was lent to people on the expectation that the value of the equity in their homes would continually rise. Once that ceased to happen and their properties lost value then there became problems with bad loans. Both also talk about the question of the decline of the dollar, and the problem with the payments deficit. Norris seems unperturbed by the dollar decline as he believes it will help American exports. He does wonder however whether or not so much manufacturing capacity has already been lost as to make an export surge less powerful.
They do not solve all or even in any of the problems, but they do throw some light on them.
