4.0 out of 5 stars The Rushdie Grossman Belli segment, February 21, 2008
Salman Rushdie filling in for Charlie Rose interviews Israeli writer David Grossman and Nicaraguan writer Giocanda Belli. What most surprises is the articulateness, intelligence and courage of Rushdie. After the 'fatwa' one would think he might in cowardly fashion try to appease the Islamists, and pile on against Israel but he dares instead to invite and show friendliness to Israeli writer David Grossman. Grossman speaks about his having turned inwards in the past ten years and his writing less about public matters. A critic of his own government he nonetheless is in his way an Israeli patriot who rejects the rejectionism of Hamas, and tells the Palestinians that Peace should be their ideal also. Belli is a Nicaraguan writer whose work Rushdie knows and praises. An interesting if not brilliant segment.
