The Alan (Ace) Greenberg segment, October 23, 2008
This review is from: Charlie Rose- Alan "Ace" Greenberg/Charlie Kaufman & actor Philip Seymour Hoffman (October 22, 2008) (DVD)
Alan (Ace) Greenberg the former CEO of Bear Stearns speaks about the current financial crisis. He is an optimist and believes the turnaround will come sooner than people believe. At the same time he says the crisis is severe. He expresses a sympathy for the financial workers who lost their jobs, especially those at Bear Stearns. But the critical question, the one which I suspect Charlie Rose brought him there to answer, he does not answer. The question is what exactly happened within Bear Stearns. Who was at fault that the situation got to what it got to?
Greenberg is amiable, avuncular but as a person who worked his way up from a starting position as clerk to being the one who ran the firm during its most successful years he is undoubtedly tough and smart. Charlie Rose mentions that Greenberg is also a major contributor to charities. Clearly this is another one of Charlie Rose's many friends and the discussion is conducted in a friendly and mutually respectful spirit. But we don't get big answers or insights.
