Charlie is an over-the-top character, full of fun and frolic. The story, based loosely on the author's experiences with her family's pet guinea pig, is imaginative and engaging. Children will love hearing about the adventures and misadventures of this wannabe-star. And adults will find plenty to keep them entertained as well. An added bonus are the pictures. Charming.

This story is hilarious! In my class it is loved by the children and the teachers as well. It is available as a story CD as well which adds to the humor of the book.

Charlie came to my classroom as a read aloud and the first graders are loving him! They are all waiting for a chance to borrow it for the night! Cute and loveable Charlie makes them laugh.

This is a fun and funny story of a guinea pig who wants to make it big in HollyWOOD. He leaves behind a note and a newspaper clipping and heads to the West Coast, only to find the glittery world of stardom is not all it's cracked up to be -- especially when there is no Fruity Nut Buffet to be had. Fake smiles and the feigned interest of strangers make Charlie realize that home it the place to be. My daughters (ages 7, 5 1/2, and 3) adore this book!

Our whole family loves Guinea Pigs and this book is one of the most often read of our (at least) one hundred book library. It is great when a book is as fun for the reader as it is for the listener.

This book is laugh out loud funny, with wonderful illustrations. Both children and adults will love Charlie. I know I do!

This book is charming and it's great to see somebody write about guinea pigs showing their personable and warm, fuzzy sides. The illustrations are wonderful. BUT, the way in which guinea pig care is portrayed is incorrect and could risk a real guinea pig's life, if one were to take this book literally. Charlie likes seeds and he lives in an aquarium. Pigs need a healthy diet, rich in Timothy Grass and lettuces. Fruits should be given minimally due to the sugar. And seeds are an absolute no-no. Aquariums are not apropriate housing.

I hope kids come away from this book with a new respect for guinea pigs and the endearing animals they are. They're wonderful pets (although for anybody under 8, require an adult's supervision due to their frailty). Certainly, owning one like Charlie would be an incredible experience. But, kids should understand that there's a lot more to caring for a guinea pig, and that the way Charlie lives isn't the healthiest.
