The James Salter segment,
By Shalom Freedman "Shalom Freedman" (Jerusalem,Israel) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Charlie Rose with James Salter; LL Cool J; Gavin de Becker (September 19, 1997) (DVD)
Salter was an Air- Force fighter pilot who wrote a first book, 'The Hunters' about the Korean War. He then went on to become a full-time writer. He wrote novels and also was involved in writing documentaries. He comes on to Charlie Rose with his most recent work, a non- chronological autobiographical novel titled 'Burning the Days'. He reads a portion of his work very effectively describing all that being a fighter pilot involved. It is at once a lyrical and moving description of a rich world of experience most of us will never have any real idea of.
