3.0 out of 5 stars Peres largely accurate Carter in never- never land, April 29, 2008
This review is from: Charlie Rose with Jimmy Carter; Shimon Peres (November 30, 2006) (DVD)
The conversation with Peres shows what a remarkable optimist and thinker he is. I do not agree with a great deal of what he says but his love of Israel, his understanding of and his dedication to it shine through the conversation. Some of his original English coinages however , a few taken up by Charlie Rose bring a bit humor to a very heavy subject indeed.
Carter is another story. Professing concern for Israel he at the same time puts the knife in its back. He refuses to even consider the role Palestinian terror plays in the Middle East conflict. He makes absolutely absurd statements about Hamas , an organization totally dedicated to one goal, the destruction of Israel. He simply is not credible.
Charlie Rose struggles to be fair, to know the material. But along with the mispronounciation of all these crazy Middle - Eastern names he really does not seem to understand the fundamental assymetry of the situation. Perhaps he would do well to read the Palestinians own official media, the Arab and Islamic media in general. If he did that he would understand that one the whole story is about is the conflict between a hatefilled totalitarian mentality ( The Arab Islamic one) and a democratic humane mentality. ( The Israeli one).
