Don't waste your time on this book,
By Kelly H (Austin, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Charlie and Lola: Say Cheese! (Hardcover)
This story was all over the place. It needed to be tightened up a lot. And wayyy too much "Lola says" and "Lotta says". Reading it aloud, you realize how ridiculous all those tags sound on every. single. page. It looks like this might not have been written by Lauren Child--it says "text based on the script written by Samantha Hill"--but I'm not sure. Hopefully Child didn't write it--she's much better than this!
There are so many great picture books out there (such as some written by Child herself). There's no reason to waste your time on this mess of a book.

This review is from: Say Cheese (Charlie & Lola) (Paperback)
I swore off charlie and lola based on the first book i experienced: the one about never eating a tomato, or peas, etc. With a toddler who was already a picky eater, I figured the last thing i needed was more fuel for her fire! But then we were given a DVD set of charlie and lola and resorted to it on a rainy afternoon. I was completely charmed and won over!! We then started checking out other books such as this one. The illustrations are original and beautiful, and the text fonts make reading more interesting. The stories are funny. My 3 y.o daughter enjoys them a lot. Watching the DVDs are great too, as the children speak in the most adorable British accents with the corresponding unusual terms for various things.
Perhaps most importantly for me, as i look for good role models in books for my 3 y.o. daughter: Lola is a spunky character with lots of imagination and interests (painting, jumping in puddles, etc.) and originality. Not afraid to speak her mind. Knows how to develop and keep friendships. Highly recommend.

Easy-Peasy, Lemon-Squeezy Fun,

This review is from: Charlie and Lola: Say Cheese! (Hardcover)
"Say Cheese!" is a Charlie and Lola book based on a fun story from the television series. Charlie and Lola are having their school pictures taken, but Lola always seems to have issues with cleanliness when it comes to taking pictures. She always manages to keep *most* of herself clean, but something always ends up getting mixed up. Lola is determined to stay clean for this school picture, but there's so many things keeping her from it. Of course, Charlie has a great idea.
The fun and lively illustrations are ported straight from the television series. The book is adapted from the script by Samantha Hill and makes for another great story to enjoy. Great for any fan of "Charlie and Lola" or for someone having their photo taken.

Like all the other Charlie and Lola books, this one is equally as sweet. The moral of the story is that Lola will be loved by her parents for her being herself - it does not matter if she does not always do what everyone else does.
