5.0 out of 5 stars Lola's Back....., September 16, 2001
For all those who loved I Will Never Not Ever Eat A Tomato, Lola and her ever-patient brother, Charlie, are back and this time he's faced with an even bigger challenge...putting Lola to bed. She's just never sleepy and loves to stay up late coloring and scribbling, sticking stickers and wriggling, bouncing and most of all chattering. In fact, she tells him she's just not ever tired. "I will probably still be perky at even 13 o'clock." But Charlie is experienced in the procrastinating ways of a very imaginative Lola and has a creative solution for each and every one of her stall tactics..... Lauren Child has written another charming and amusing story featuring the irrepressable Lola and youngsters will delight in all of her antics as she tries to stay up later and later. Ms Child's humorous and realistic text is only outdone by her marvelously detailed artwork that combines photographs, collages, childlike drawings and different font colors and sizes into an illustrative feast for the eyes. Perfect for youngsters 4-8, I Am Not Sleepy And Will Not Go To Bed is a wonderful bedtime story that's sure to tickle the funny bone of your little "Lola" and a book kids will beg to read again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bedtime book for an older (or younger) sibling, September 5, 2001
By A Customer

Lauren Child provides another Charlie and Lola story for everyone who loved "I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato." Lola refuses to go to bed and her longsuffering older brother, Charlie, tries all sorts of subtle manipulations to convince her otherwise. My favorite argument is for Lola's favorite bedtime drink, strawberry milk, which she can only have if she is headed to bed. Lola thinks up more excuses for avoiding bedtime than most children I have dealt with.

This picture book serves as a great book for a frustrated child with younger, irrational siblings, but the humor can be appreciated by all. The books remind me of Judy Blume's "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" and "Superfudge" which chronicle another oldest child's trials and tribulations with younger siblings. The love, although exasperated, is apparent in Charlie and Lola's relationship. I highly recommend both Charlie and Lola books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lighthearted story, January 11, 2005
I got this because my two year old HATES going to bed...when I do manage to try to take a nap, I'm poked in the cheek and she is chanting..."no shleepy mommy, no shleepy"...so when I saw this book I knew it was for us. It is funny and charming and my two year old giggles each time Lola halts the bed time process with another wild step. And even more fun is watching my 8 year old reading it to her little sister as a bed time story. It is fun, the illustrations are good. I'm happy we have this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars FUNNY, BEAUTIFUL PICTURES, PERFECT FOR AGE, April 2, 2002
By A Customer
My four-year old daughter and I love this book. The strawberry milk in the "barbie-like" cup, the toothpaste, the pajama's - illustrated just for a little girl - all things my daughter loves. Lola's wild imagination and her silliness is so delightful to read at the end of the day. We love it so much we want to share with friends and are buying for birthday gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars We Love This Series - a review of "I am not Sleepy..." (Charlie and Lola), February 28, 2006
I am sorry to say that we only discovered this wonderful series of books after running across them on television. What a Joy!!! (Either the show or the book.)

The tenderness between brother and sister is so refreshing and I can tell you that not only I respond positively to it; my children (who are boy and girl also) adore the pair. [Sometimes they pretend to Charlie and Lola although in our case sister is the Big One.]

Now if tenderness was the only strength of this book, I doubt it would be as popular as it is at our home. The creativity that Charlie (and author Child) takes to solving Lola's complaints is just great.

Five Stars. Creativity, great artwork, and tenderness makes this book a winner. Highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars FIRR-Kids! Review, November 10, 2008
This review is from: Charlie and Lola's I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed Pop-Up (Hardcover)
Wow! This is the most amazing pop up book! There are tabs on every single page that do all sorts of different things. Of course there is pop up, but also pull down, slide over, twirl around and swoop down. It's so much fun! And being that it's Charlie and Lola, you can read this in a fake British accent while your kids roll their eyes.

As the title implies, Lola likes to stay up late and not go to bed. Charlie must work to keep her on track in spite of her outlandish excuses. Lola can't possibly get ready for bed when there are tigers who pop up in the kitchen needing a bedtime drink, a lion hogging her toothbrush and whales swimming round the bathtub. Not to mention the dancing dogs twirling about in her pajamas and a hippo lounging in her bed. Bedtime is a real zoo around here!

This is an awesome book that offers plenty of hands-on activities for the readers. Each tab is different from the last, so you won't know what to expect when you turn the page. A great deal of thought went into the tabs to make them ever so entertaining - the dogs actually twirl around in the bed and the toothpaste pulls out in a squiggle. In all, a great big oversized book with a ton of fun inside!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful....., September 21, 2005
I purchased I am Not Sleepy and I will not go to bed and I Am Absolutely Too Young for School together. Both books have been bedtime favorites for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. She loves the bright colors and images. They are a great addition to her library.

5.0 out of 5 stars hip design, fun book, November 30, 2002

My daughter is 2 1/2 and this book is her favorite. The design is very colorful and interesting, and the dialogue between the characters, Lola and her brother Charlie, is the way real kids talk. Lola doesn't want to go to bed, and it is Charlie's job to get her there. Lola has quite an imagination and Charlie must give bedtime drinks to imaginary tigers, shoo a whale down the drain before Lola can bathe, etc. This book is great for toddlers. Lauren Child's Clarice Bean books are for older kids, but my daughter also loves those too, as does my six year old niece. The best are Clarice Bean, That's Me, and What Planet are you from, Clarice Bean?

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Charlie & Lola story!, September 2, 2006
By
Lizzinor Bennwood "Kiki" (Currently residing in Illinois, USA (Formerly of Wallasey, England)) - See all my reviews
As I read any 1 of the 6 Charlie & Lola books that we own to my son, I am constantly reminded of what a patient and special big brother Charlie is to the funny and determined Lola. These books are a wonderful way to show the connection between siblings.
"I am not sleepy..." is another great book by Child, this time covering the time old tale of trying to get a little one to bed. This book is very cute with it's wonderfully colourful illustrations that have my son shaking with excitement (he's 6 months old). I'm sure it will become a favourite in our household for many years.
