4.0 out of 5 stars Songs made for Charlie
Having had the chance to hear Charlie Louvin live, I know just how powerful his 80+ year old voice can be. I wish that someone had recorded everything done in his former old soda shop in Nashville. The sound of him and Diane Berry singing was just amazing. You KNEW you were in the room with history. On CD the feeling just didn't come through BUT "Live at Shake It Records"...

3.0 out of 5 stars good ol country music
The song selection is excellent. The musicianship is classic and impeccable. Now to Charlie's voice: 1) Here is a tried and true troubador, age 82, with more talent in his nail clippings than most of the so called country stars of today...(I mean their stage names are enough to make you gag....Taylor Swift, on and on.....) 2) Then you have to say, this guy really sounds...

On CD the feeling just didn't come through BUT "Live at Shake It Records" came pretty close to capturing that magic.
This year Charlie came back strong. His Gospel "Steps to Heaven" is already nominated for a Grammy. A return to his Gospel roots worked well, now the other side of Charlie. "Murder Ballads and Disaster Songs" PERFECT songs for Charlie and his seasoned voice. If anything these songs sound BETTER with a voice that has lived and experienced so much. This is the BEST effort from Charlie Louvin yet. The eariler reviewer was right - you should know that it's not a young man singing these songs - THANK GOD - Can you imagine The Jonas Brothers or Kenny Chesney singing Murder Ballads? It's gotta be a legend like Charlie Louvin.

4.0 out of 5 stars Murder Ballards and Disaster Songs, February 10, 2009
I purchased this CD for my husband and he really liked the CD. He fills like Charlie should have made this CD back when he was younger, because alot of the songs he sings crack. Alot of the songs on the CD his dad use to sing to him when he was a boy. It is good some one would put out these songs like Charlie did. Now you need to get Johnny Wright to put out a CD like Charlie. I love Johnny Wright and Kitty Wells and I am looking for one of those CD's to come out soon if they are not already out. I've always enjoyed the Louvin Brothers also. Ken Hartgrove
