4.0 out of 5 stars A former ranger An Khe 1969-70
I found this book to be very informative as to what it was actually like to be in the bush. I did find it very disturbing that Mr. Rotundo could put down another Ranger Unit as he did with K Co. of which I was a member of and was in An Khe the same time John was there. I can assure John that when we went out during that time the teams that I went out with were making...

3.0 out of 5 stars Charlie Rangers
I was a little less than thrilled with the accuracy of the book. There are omissions from the roster and there are some photographs that seemed to be from Lima Company, rather than from Charlie Company. For a factual book, this has a tendency to taint history with inaccuracies.

However to be fair to the writers, I have been told that it was the decision...

I found this book to be very informative as to what it was actually like to be in the bush. I did find it very disturbing that Mr. Rotundo could put down another Ranger Unit as he did with K Co. of which I was a member of and was in An Khe the same time John was there. I can assure John that when we went out during that time the teams that I went out with were making contact. Most missions were set for 4 to 5 days and most of the time we were back within 2 days due to our teams initiating contact and getting confirmed kills, even through as John stated we were primarily 4 man teams sent out for recon purposes and not as ambush teams. John looks familiar to me from the picture in the book, I also had the utmost respect for the guys in Charlie Co. and had no problem looking them in the eye and saying hello as I walked by. I also thought they had the same respect for me as a fellow Ranger but I guess I was wrong. Outside of this portion of the book I thought it was very good and strongly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars FACTUAL ACCOUNT OF UNCONVENTIONAL WAR., April 29, 1999

This review is from: Charlie Rangers (Mass Market Paperback)
HAVING SERVED WITH 4TH PLATOON AS A TEAMLEADER, THE AUTHORS TELL IT LIKE IT WAS. CHARLIE COMPANY WAS THE BEST AT HUNTER-KILLER MISSIONS. OFTEN OPCON TO SPECIAL FORCES AND OTHER UNITS, OUR TEAMS WERE DEADLY EFFECTIVE. ROTUNDO AND ERICSON DELIVER YOU BACK TO THAT TIME, A TIME WHEN COURAGE WAS COMMON TO EACH MISSION.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the toughest, and bravest came together as one, September 21, 1999

This review is from: Charlie Rangers (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was one of the best books on 75th rangers in vietnam. The deadly 6 man hunter killer teams that stalked the VC and NVA for days at a time with no words spoken is facinateing. They are the best at what they did..killing and they were the best in the business. This book is the best. Read it and you will feel difrent about what you thought you were about to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Ranger Book, February 3, 2001
By
This review is from: Charlie Rangers (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the best of the books I have read about the LRP rangers. You feel like you actually know the them, and feel for them when one of them dies. It gives a very real look at not only what happens on the battlefield, but also what goes on at their base camp. All the drugs, sex, and police calls you can handle. Of the two I found the John L. Rotundo portion to be the most interesting, but Ericson still does a fantastic job. Whether they are hiding from MP's in the local bar or out in the field ambushing a group of half-stepping NVA, it's exciting throughout.

The only complaint I can say I have about this book is that it gets mildly confusing. They switch back in forth telling their own stories in no particular order, which, as you might think, gets annoying. But this is not enough to hamper enjoyment of this great book. Recommended to anyone who likes war stories or the LRP books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book about commandos hunter-killer teams behind enemy lines., June 1, 2006

This book is a page turner describing the experience of the two authors' tour in Vietnam as members of a Rangers company. It's full of detailed missions where they were inserted right behind enemy lines inside the Vietnamese jungle, sometimes as members and other times as leaders of small 6 persons hunter-killer teams that specialized in ambushing and killing the North Vietnamese guerrillas.

This book is almost up there with others great LRPs(long range patrol) books like "SOG: The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam", I totally recommend it if you like non-fiction special forces books.

5.0 out of 5 stars the real war in Vietnam as it was lived, July 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Charlie Rangers (Mass Market Paperback)
This books describes in detail the pitfalls of war along with some of the humor our service men must incure. At times, this book brings tears to the eyes and there are times when they pull their outlandish pranks. This true story of Vietnam should me mandatory reading for all military personnel, past and present and not be neglected by individuals who have not served their country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes you feel as if you're in the hells of Vietnam as well, August 17, 2000

This book, as everyone else has said, is the best book on or by LRRPs I have ever had the pleasure to read. It puts you right there with them, a feat many books have trouble doing (especially when it comes to nonfiction...). Read this book, and you may find yourself having a deeper respect for Vietnam veterans (and all other veterans, for that matter). On a side note, I found this book at a flea market, and when I got it home I found it was signed by Rotundo, and had a message to "Vince". If anyone out there knows who Vince is, or would like to buy the book from me, please drop me an Email at my_own_clone@hotmail.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written narrative of young men at the tip of the spear, April 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Charlie Rangers (Mass Market Paperback)
Marvelous book - I've read it twice. Don's a "hometown boy" and like many young men from our county, was eager to challenge the adventures of life. Unfortunately for so many of us, that first adventure was war. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a factual account of young men in combat. (Don will be a featured guest on a forthcoming edition of Veterans For Veterans, a 30 minute weekly TV show broadcast on TCI Cable channels 38 and 3 in McHenry County, IL on Wednesdays at 2100) James W. 5.0 out of 5 stars This book is fantastic!, January 26, 1998

This review is from: Charlie Rangers (Mass Market Paperback)
I read every book that I can get my hands on, and the books I enjoy most are about small unit actions written by participants in said actions. This is by far the best of those I've read. The authors use a conversational style that gives the impression that you are actually there with them. This is one of the few books that centers on six-man "Hunter-Killer Teams", not just the recon aspects of Rangers. I am also proud of a country that produces men like this...
