5.0 out of 5 stars Obama in 2006 before the Presidential Race, January 6, 2008
This review is from: Charlie Rose with Barack Obama (October 19, 2006) (DVD)
This interview gives a good sense of the thought and approach of Senator Barack Obama. He is a clear, and eloquent speaker. His language is one of conciliation and not confrontation. He has great poise and command. Charlie Rose provides him an opportunity to express his views on the Congressional elections which are to come in three weeks in 2006. Obama explains why he believes a Democratic victory a taking of Congress is so important. He also talks about his recommendation for a phased withdrawal from Iraq. He speaks in generalities about major issues, such as health - care for all Americans, greater energy independence, preserving jobs for Americans. He mentions problems of globalization, international terror, nuclear proliferation. He speaks about appealing to all Americans and changing the whole tone of the national discourse.
He has a persuasive manner and a 'new message'. And in fact his main message is that of the need for renewal and his desire to be 'useful' to America in helping provide it. He does not respond directly to a call by NYTimes columnist David Brooks to run for the Presidency. But Rose asks him about this more than once.
I read this interview a day after he took the election in Iowa in a decisive fashion.
