David Brooks is a distinguished New York Times' journalist extensively known for his rigorous and trustworthy political and economic analysis. But in this interview, Charlie Rose brings about the best of Brooks' profound expertise in one of the most critical subject of our days, worldwide: EDUCATION.

Here, educators who are pursuing "the New Education Vision" will find that Brooks goes galaxies ahead of the obsolete educational systems we have today. So much so in the assessment of essential human needs as a necessary condition to be improve education, as in what needs to be done to succesfuly achieve the central Mission of education: educate students to learn and succeed in life. In economic terms David Brooks provides a highly humane analysis. He, very simply but inequivocally, highlights what needs to be done to optimize returns to investments in education.

Every educator will benefit from Brook's analysis. Every person responsible for the design of educational policies, or the financing of educational systems and projects, should be aware.

Educational systems need to change rapidly and correct critical errors that are increasingly "hurting", instead of "helping" students:

- Research studies confirm that students with bad teachers learn only 1/3 when compared with students with quality teachers learn.

- Teachers' rewards based on tenure / length of time teaching, hurt students. Rewards should go to quality teacher measured by effectiveness in students' learning.

- Most educational systems are backward-looking and detrimentally perpetuate centuries old, obsolete, and stagnant methods "to deal" with students.
