George Schultz is one of the finest public servants America has had in this century. Henry Kissinger says that if there is one person who he thinks should be running things at a time of crisis in America it is George Schultz. Schultz comes on the Charlie Rose show with a new book in hand. In it he provides practical suggestions for dealing with crises in the economy, some seem to believe are going to be disastrous. One of these crises is the Social Security crisis. He recommends a new way of adjusting future payments so that the system will be able to live with it. He also talks about the Healthcare crisis and the proposal his mentor Milton Friedman made regarding health vouchers. He also when asked by Charlie Rose finds President Carter's talking to Hamas- thus defying official U.S. policy on the subject- outrageous. Schultz is a fair - square tough and honest person. He speaks with affection of his work with Ronald Reagan in bringing down the Soviet Empire. He also comes to advocate the total abolition of nuclear weapons and speaks of the group he is involved including Sam Nunn and Kissinger who are working on this project.
An inspiring interview with a great American.
