4.0 out of 5 stars The Jimmy Wales segment February 12, 2008
Charlie Rose talks to the founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales. Wales tells the story of Wikipedia. He speaks of his goal of providing open- source( free ) encyclopedia for every person on earth- one which would be created by a large number of people as an ongoing process. He contrasts Wikpedia with Britannica. Britannica he says is still superior in Humanities but Wikipedia has the edge on Current Events and Technology. The up-to-dateness factor works in its advantage.
Wales speaks also about his 'Wiki' project which is an effort to create a global cultural community, in areas outside the mere providing of information.
Wales does not tell the story in a dramatic or exciting way even though 'Wikipedia' is truly one of the remarkable accomplishments of the Age of the Internet.
Charlie Rose again does his excellent job. And that job is too in choosing guests of great interest to his viewers. Rose has again and again brought to his show the top people in various worlds of creative endeavor.
