5.0 out of 5 stars The fascination of the global-media tycoon, October 25, 2007
This review is from: Charlie Rose with Rupert Murdoch (July 20, 2006) (DVD)
Murdoch is a legendary figure. Thus this interview gives us an opportunity for the 'little guy' to be in the company of one of the major makers and shakers of the world. This is of course one primary source of the Rose show appeal. He speaks to important people the public has curiosity about it, and through the interviews gets to see, hear and 'know' them.
Murdoch surprised me a bit. Perhaps because it is not a young person. But he didn't have the dash and verve I expected. Nor did he have kind of charismatic fluency one might expect of the global tycoon.
Instead he was sober, sensible, reasonable. Straight and honest talk. The talk was all about Murdoch and his businesses, with a little political stuff thrown in. He tells about his past acquisitions, and moves he contemplates in business now. He mentions his successes with the London Times, Sky in Britain, Fox News. He speaks about the problems newspapers are having because of the Internet and the decline in young readership. He speaks realistically about world- political problems as a friend of Israel, of democratic freedom, and as a proud American.
He discusses the future of his businesses, and his family.
Generally interesting interview.
