4.0 out of 5 stars Sheila Bair segment October 21, 2008
Sheila Bair is one of the heroes of the hour. As Chairman of the FDIC she has been involved in dealing with keeping the financial system going. She is clear- thinking, practical, down- to- earth and down- to - business person. Charlie Rose makes much of the praise given her by Warren Buffet and she speaks about them both being Midwesteners with a kind of no- nonsense, practical quality. Her most urgent concern is making sure that homeowners(who are not in an extreme and impossible debt situation) now threatened with foreclosure be provided as soon as possible with a financial arrangement to keep them in their homes. She also assures those with bank- deposits that in spite of the fact that more banks will fail their deposits are insured. She seems in every way a dedicated, honest, hard- working public servant. She compliments those people at Treasury and in her own office who have been working so hard recently as a result of the crisis. She is according to Buffet one of those who had foreseen a crisis, spoken out vigorously beforehand about the sub- prime lending mistake.
She refuses to make predictions or to be drawn into speaking about what she does not want to speak about.
