4.0 out of 5 stars The Zimbabwe segment, June 30, 2008
This review is from: Charlie Rose - A discussion about the Zimbabwe election / Emmylou Harris (June 25, 2008) (DVD)
Four experts discuss the situation in Zimbabwe. They are unanimous about the corruption of the Mugabe regime. They also talk about the total collapse of the economy in Zimbabwe. They all want pressure on the regime to have it replaced. They speak about the fact that the Mugabe regime considers itself the generation of heroic liberation and therefore believe 'ruling' their automatic right. They point to murders of opposition figures and their wives in the time heading up to the coming election. They all agree that President Bush is correct in declaring the election to be a fraudulent one. They speak about the failures of the U.S. and Britain to put pressure on the Mugabe regime. They relate a very sad chronicle of how the country has deteriorated into being one of the poorest countries in the world.
There is no real debate in the discussion and no sense that there is an alternative view.
A disturbing and depressing situation is reported on in this disucssion.
