Studs Terkel the pioneering radio journalist who made out of his conversations with others an art form appears with Charlie Rose on the occasion of his receiving an honorary award from LIU. Rose asks him about how he got started on the idea of making 'ordinary talk' the basis of his books. Terkel who is eighty- eight at interview time comes on as a strong opinionated self- aware person who himself admits to being a non- stop talker. Charlie Rose shows great respect for Terkel as pioneering journalist. Terkel is another one of Rose's many 'friends' people he has spoken with many times and with whom he has formed a warm relationship.
Terkel here is obviously a lion in winter but still a lion. An enjoyable segment. |
