4.0 out of 5 stars Lemonick segment on drug- resistant bacteria, February 5, 2008
Michael Lemonick tells Charlie Rose about the resurgence of the bacteria and the viruses. According to him Mankind thought it had won the war with bacteria with the discovery and development of antibiotics. What people did not reckon on was the adaptability of the bacteria, and the appearance of new bacteria and viruses all the time. Rose listens carefully but does not seem to adopt wholeheartedly the tone of scare and perhaps sensation there is in Lemonick's observations. Lemonick is cautious and does not say that there will be a Plague or Pandemic in the years ahead. He does speak about the AIDs virus and how it particularly nasty in being present before its symptoms appear- that is making transmission more likely- It is also the type of virus which takes many different forms and which there therefore has been no success in getting some kind of vaccine against.
This is an informative segment but perhaps the author and promoter of the book would have done a bit better to have seemed less alarmist.
