Great Book!,

This review is from: Charlie White: Photographs (Hardcover)
This book is incredible. I saw Charlie speak at the Semi-Permannet event in New York in September 05, and I rushed out and bought the book, praying to find some of the images he had shown. sure enough, it was packed to the brim with most of his work, and everyone that comes to my place and has a look at the book is either amazed or completly freaked out. I recommend a puff before reading. . .

charlie white's images rock,

charlie white's images push digital photography into the creative details usually reserved for paint on canvas. he resurrects fine art photography while at the same time pays homage to the history of sci fi and contemporary media. is there really any difference between doctor who and richard hamilton anyways? if you own a digital camera you should own this book...its more important than the users manual.

Interesting...,
This review is from: Charlie White: Photographs (Hardcover)
Charlie White's got a unique style.I personally don't like these photos -- a bit too grotesque sometimes -- but I like the idea behing the photos (i.e. Josh). The photos in this book often bring confused, embarrassed, but intrigued smiles on the faces of people who see them.

Regarding photographic books,

This book is a clear and consistent example of this young artists work to date. With both solid essays, most importantly the Annabelle Chong text, and a well printed collection of images covering 5 years -or- three complete projects by the artist. If you are interested in his work this book is a good overview, maybe early, but very direct and satisfying to the art audience that can not reach NY. Unlike many photography books, this publication does a good job in illustrateing the images and allowing the reader to either read or look, not being forced to do both on the page.

Best conversation piece coffee table book ever! Charlie white is brilliant. You may be best familiar w/ his work from his Interpol video he directed. He is an amazing artist and does brilliant spectacles of artwork. He is also a intermedia professor at USC!! Buy this book.. Its honestly worth it.

A very disapointing excuse for a book,
By Andrew G. "Andrew" (Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews

I was intrigued by the video work of Mr. White in his first music video "Evil" for the band Interpol. The internet reviews of the video were mixed but complimentary enough of his "talent" to seek out some other material. So, here is my 2-line review: "I don't get it." or "WAIT, STOP, DON'T BOTHER WITH A PURCHASE." Don't let the cover fool you that the interior is filled with similar somber/odd images. They are just weird. Not "good weird" but an infantile "hey I'm trying to make a statement" but not a good one weird. So, you've heeded my warning and wonder what you are missing? How about the first 16 Plates of a blue painted nude female with a squid shaped swimming cap styled head in mostly a variety of provocative poses. (Eh, better porn on the internet.) How about several plates showing a the shocked students running from a college dining area when a large snarling alien enters the room. Boring. There are some plates of a woman beating off a smaller alien with a pipe (so what). How about a guy holding up an severed alien head on a hook-chain with neighborhood kids poking it with a stick (just gross). The only redeeming parts MAYBE are a few housewifes having tea and holding a few pieces of meat or meat looking puppet pieces.... who knows, who cares. I'm open minded and creative but I was certainly not inspired. Anyone want a photography book in mint condition? This one? I don't.
