First, former National Security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski talks with Charlie about the aftermath of the settlement in Kosovo. He speaks particularly about the international perception of America's involvement in Kosovo which Brzezinski believes is focused on the US's morally bereft vlaues. Next, a conversation with Mike Watchmaker of the Daily Racing Form. The topic of the hour is Charismatic, who may become the first horse to win the Triple Crown since 1978. Then, New York magazine critic John Simon gives a run down of the year in theater and offers his top picks for this Sunday's Tony Awards. He also take a look at the renewed popularity of serious drama on Broadway. Finally, former poet laureate Rita Dove is on to talk about her new collection of poems, On the Bus with Rosa Parks.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Rita Dove segment December 26, 2007
Rita Dove who has been the Poet Laureate of the United States comes to Charlie Rose to talk about her new book of poems 'On the Bus with Rosa Parks". Dove is an affable, intelligent and thoughtful nice- looking middle- aged woman. She is pleasant. She talks a bit about Rosa Parks and the great historic moment when she was just too tired to get to the back of the bus- and in her small act of courage helped ignite the Civil Rights movement. Dove reads her poem about this. Unfortunately it is a bit too literal. No sparks.
Rose asks about Poetry in general and Dove answers that Poetry is a form of Attention. She speaks about its intensity of Language.
One has the feeling she is a fine person and a good poet- but that this is not going to move us into the deepest depths or the great heights.
