Being a long time fan of the original series, who also enjoyed the cinematic takes on the franchise, I was eagerly awaiting this show and how it would be transformed for the current masses.
The season opener was adequate enough but it took me a couple more episodes to enjoy and actually fall in love with this cast. The gals, while at times a bit limited by the dialogue, deliver with style. While some action scenes and editing pace sometimes defy the credibility of the plots, I am willing to forgive this because I realize it is pure and simple escapism.
Now I understand ABC has cancelled the series. Too bad. Quite disappointing. In episode 6 we finally get a glimpse of things to come.. when we even find out a bit more history about Bosley and the plot sets off what could be a possible archway to be revisited in future episoed. Too bad this plot will probably not get as developed as maybe planned by the production team.
In the broadcasting world full of "reality" trash on TV, I do advocate the return of fun and escapism TV. The new Charlie's Angels was just that: fun plots, beautiful ladies who know how to get down and dirty, great locales, and a dash of humor.. which is so very much missing on TV now a days.

RIP. But to the cast.. You guys were great.

Here's my ultimate fantasy plot. The girls land in Hawaii in pursuit of a killer, who is also being investigated by the guys of 5-0. Imagine the look on Steve, Danny and Chin upon running into the angels accidentally during the case... I can envision those boys going gaga over the Angels, who take charge of the case, while the girls of 5-0 flare up in envy. Enter Bosley..who upon seeing Kono, is unable to concentrate on the job. Lori is so upset about Steve's undivided attention towards the Angels that she quits 5-0 and leaves the island for good.
So CBS... are you reading this? LOL LOL

I learned a reboot of the iconic 1970s series "Charlie's Angels" was on its way during the summer of 2011. Rumor has it, the reboot occurred, because fan/executive producer/series rights owner Drew Barrymore couldn't get a studio to take a chance on a second sequel after both the atrocious big screen film and its (slightly better) sequel underperformed at the box office.

As a fan of the original series, I was willing to give it a chance. The pilot had far too much to set up and establish. All of which could have been better served in a 90 minute episode, rather than a single hour. It also lacked other things. There was nothing remotely resembling a tribute to the late Farrah Fawcett, Aaron Spelling, John Forsythe or David Doyle in the credits nor was there any retention of the Angels flip: the logo of all three women's silhouettes that would piece together while the theme music played as the show cut to commercials.

The back stories behind the Townsend Agency and the Angels's pasts were changed in a bid to update the original series's formula. In a subplot device reminiscent of "The Mod Squad," all three Angels were now former criminals given a chance to make amends for their checkered pasts by working on the right side of the law as private detectives. Bosley was no longer the portly father figure and comic relief. He was now a Latin stud and tech head who often aided the Angels on their missions. There was also shades of "Alias," "La Femme Nikita" and "She Spies" peppered throughout the eight episodes that aired.

Casting was a problem in and of itself. The only lead I really liked was Nicole Kidman look-a-like Rachael Taylor. Minka Kelly and Annie Illonzeh are fine actresses, but they could only do so much with the shoddy material they were given.

Charlie's Angels is a remake of the popular TV show back in the 70's of the same title. It stars Annie Ilonzeh,Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor as the new female detectives Kate Prince, a former Miami cop; Eve French, a street racer; and Abby Sampson, former thief respectively together with Ramon Rodriguez as John Bosley, a hacker; and Victor Garber as the voice of Charles "Charlie" Townsend. The show was developed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar for ABC.However,it only ran for 8 episodes after ABC decided to cancel it after the fourth episode due to its very low ratings.

The show got panned to early and it barely lasted ten episodes. Why? The reason is simple. The show had too much glamour that the producers forgot all about the acting, writing and action scenes. Also,it never realized that it is living off one of the best TV shows back in the 70's that it forgot the reputation and expectations that it has to live on.Back in the 70's,the show was about capitalizing on women being able to do police work. But in the remake,it was basically about looking great on the TV screen and nothing more.Even the funny Bosley was re-written to be a heartthrob to make women scream. While I must admit that the original also did rely on glamour but not too much as it made sure that the episodes will provide joy, delight and entertainment to the viewers without insulting their intelligence. The same cannot be said of the remake.

When I found out that ABC was producing a reboot of the classic TV series Charlie's Angels starring Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Cheryl Ladd, Tanya Roberts, David Doyle and John Forsythe as the never-seen Charlie, I thought, "Why? Why are networks and movie studios remaking things that have been done well?" Though in some cases (The Ten Commandments & Ben-Hur), the remakes are actually quite good. CBS scored a major hit with its reboot of the 1968-1980 classic cop show Hawaii Five-O, and it's one that I really like. This first episode really sets everything up, though I would have preferred an origin story, a la the pilot of CBS' reboot of Hawaii Five-0 or in the vein of Christopher Nolan's first installment of his immensely popular Batman franchise. Really good stuff. Good thing it's clean, like Hawaii Five-0 (some violence and mild language, but NO sex or nudity). Leonard Goldberg, who produced the original series, another cop show called T.J. Hooker and is currently producing Blue Bloods, which also airs on CBS, is also producing this reboot of the series, and it airs on ABC, which is owned by Disney, both of which factors may explain why it's clean, which is a good thing. Let's see how it turns out...
