5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! A GREAT LAUNDRY SOAP THAT IS ALSO GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!!!!
I purchased this Laundry Soap because I was looking for a Really Great Soap that was also environmentally friendly! About the same time we purchased the LG Tromm front loading washer and dryer set! Which by the way, I LOVE!!...I went from using 50 gallons of water per load to about 15-16 gallons of water per load! This soap works very well with the front loaders, but you...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent cleaning power, natural, but I found a better alternative
Here are my experiences after using the Charles' Soap exclusively on 100+ loads after 3 months. I ran a large empty load with double the usual amount of Charlie's Soap (2oz) and washed several old towels to clear my HE front-loading Maytag washing machine of any residue left behind by other detergents (previouly used ECOS Free & Clear for almost a year) as suggested...

This soap works very well with the front loaders, but you can use this soap with either a top or front loading machines. I was amazed at how clean my husbands work clothes came out. He was even impressed! And I didn't use any bleach or anything else with it. Also, everything comes out softer than they did when I used my other soaps. It's very low suds, you don't need to use alot, and You can purchase this in powder or liquid form, I use the liquid soap, but I think next time I'll purchase this soap from the actual Charlies Soap Company, because I found that when you order through them, if your order is at least $20.00, shipping is free, plus if you order two or more items you get further discounts, so it is much cheaper purchasing it from Charlies directly. I just googled Charlies Soap and it pulled their website right up. Bottom Line....I highly recommend this soap in either liquid or powder form whether you have a top loader or a front loading machine, but especially if you have a front loading machine, a Highly Powerful Combination! I just wished I'd done this much sooner! Try it, you'll Never go back!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff!, June 23, 2008
By
I was skeptical when I first tried Charlie's Soap laundry liquid - it seemed to promise way too many great things. What I have found is that it is my favorite biodegradable laundry liquid - I like the fact that I am not using a petroleum-based product. I have tried both Seventh Generation and Method and found Charlie's Laundry Liquid to be the best biodegradable soap at getting stains out. I do have some trouble with getting stains out when washing with cold water, but warm or hot water helps. This stuff has even gotten cat urine out of a duvet - can't smell a thing!

The first 2-3 times you use this, be aware that you will have tons of suds in your machine as it gets the residue from your previous detergent out - these will diminish greatly over time. The laundry liquid can be used in either HE or regular washers - no need for a different soap. It is cost effective as you have to use a miniscule amount of soap for each load, so it lasts a long time. When the clothes are wet they do have a scent, but once dry there is almost no scent. We tried doing laundry with just the laundry liquid as so many people advertise that they don't need fabric softener, but we found that the clothes were softer and pet hair was more easily removed by using a dryer sheet. Granted, clothes washed with just Charlie's Laundry Liquid were much softer than clothes washed with a regular detergent such as Tide or All. In short, great product doing great things for the environment (with a great marketing campaign - have to appreciate marketing with a sense of humor). If you have questions about their other products go to the website - [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Natural, Earth-Friendly, cheaper, and better than Tide, Wisk, or any other brand!, June 8, 2008

I ordered Charlie's Soap reluctantly, but because I needed it for my son's cloth diapers. I now use it for all my laundry because my clothes and towels come out clean and soft with no residue, and I don't have to use fabric softener so my towels are more absorbent. A gallon lasts forever since you only need to use two tablespoons per load of laundry.

This review is from: Charlie's Soap Laundry Liquid - 1 Gal Jug - (128 Loads) (Health and Beauty)
Here are my experiences after using the Charles' Soap exclusively on 100+ loads after 3 months. I ran a large empty load with double the usual amount of Charlie's Soap (2oz) and washed several old towels to clear my HE front-loading Maytag washing machine of any residue left behind by other detergents (previouly used ECOS Free & Clear for almost a year) as suggested before using it to wash my clothes. It does clean better than ECOS and the Seventh Generation detergent I used before this. However, I still notice it doesn't wash off some simple oil/clear grease stain on my table cloth, children clothes, etc. I have no suds problem and my family doesn't have allergic reaction with any of the above products. However, because it doesn't clean as well as I would like (comparing with less natural/environmental-friendly product like Tide). My house also has a water softener system, so it should work even better and I also tried to use more than the 1oz amount recommended for HE and it still doesn't work well in cleaning my cloth. This prompted me to search for and I think I might have found a better cleaning product - Planet 2x HE Ultra Laundry Liquid Detergent, 32-Loads, 50-Ounces Bottle (Pack of 4). It costs about 50% more per load, however, so far, after using Planet's detergent on 10 loads of laundry, I can see some of the really old stains (food stain on place mats) slowly disappear! Clothes coming out of the washer feeling cleaner (no suds) and softer than ever before. I am a believer now and I believe the higher cost is well justified for the better result.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in its claims, April 25, 2011
This review is from: Charlie's Soap Laundry Liquid - 1 Gal Jug - (128 Loads) (Health and Beauty)
I have used both liquid and powder versions of Charlie's Laundry soap, originally because I was intrigued and impressed with the claims on the packaging to thoroughly clean so many varieties of tough stains, including blood and grass stains. I'm sorry to say that has not been my experience. I can't even get it to remove simple ring-around-the-collar without pre-treating with something like "Shout," and when I do pre-treat, I know it's the other product that's working instead of the Charlie's Soap. It hasn't done a thing for blood and oil stains. I've been using it with liquid Oxy-Clean, with no better results. There is white residue left on my clothes much of the time, too. I contacted the company and was given a suggestion to try a new Charlie's Laundry Booster product that has apparently just come out (and I can't find it anywhere). I questioned why I should have to add something -- ANYTHING -- to a product that claims to do it all on its own. If I'm going to have to buy a couple of expensive Charlie's products to accomplish what one of them claims to do by itself, I'm going to try something else, like Seventh Generation.

2.0 out of 5 stars So-so, January 28, 2011

This review is from: Charlie's Soap Laundry Liquid - 1 Gal Jug - (128 Loads) (Health and Beauty)
I have followed the directions and have read the reviews. So I cleaned the washer ahead of time. I use the right amount for the right amount of clothing. But some of the clothes just dont come clean. I have small children and sometimes the clothes get dirty from eating. I have the check every item because the food residue is still there. So I spray them, add some Arm & Hammer and then it comes clean. This wasnt a problem before. I also have a problem with odors. Often after I have gotten the clothes from the dryer, the clothes or blanket/sheet still have the odor on them such as body odors and accidents (urine), so its not that great of a cleaner because I have to inspect everything, spray and add extra detergent/soda to ensure cleanliness. I think I am going just use the rest, and then try making my own from recipes of people who successfully clean their children's clothes and general laundry the first time around.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charlie's Rocks, September 21, 2010
This review is from: Charlie's Soap Laundry Liquid - 1 Gal Jug - (128 Loads) (Health and Beauty)
I have been using Charlie's Soap for almost 2 years now. I purchased a front loading washer and my beloved Mrs Myers was a sudsing disaster, even though it is rated for HE washers. After much research I found Charlie's Soap. I followed all the instructions for cleaning the washer and then steeled myself for the long haul (ie: getting the old soap residue out of my clothes). It was a LONG HAUL and at times I could be heard muttering bad words as I rinsed and rinsed and rinsed. Towels were the worst. Most of my clothing is made from natural fibers so it took longer to get all the residue out. But now - oh yeah! The soap does a fine job of getting the everyday dirt out of things. Since my daughter is still prone to making a hot mess of her clothes, I do use a natural bleach alternative (Seventh Generation) and put vinegar in the fabric softener cycle. The vinegar helps with rinsing and leaves the clothes smelling fresh. My daughter has sensitive skin but has not had a reaction to the soap, as other reviewers have noted.

Be aware that as Charlie's Soap is cleaning the old soap/fabric softener residue (and dirt) out of your clothes, some funkiness will ensue. There was a period of about 2 weeks where all my jeans went stiff. And then there were the mystery spots that would appear after washing. All that has stopped now. It was just old detergent and stains coming to the surface of the fibers. Try it for at least 6 months before you make a decision - you'll like it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Loving It, August 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Charlie's Soap Laundry Liquid - 1 Gal Jug - (128 Loads) (Health and Beauty)
I have many friends who use this and raved about it, so I thought that I'd give it a try. Gotta say, I'm NOT loving it. I followed the directions for first time users to use 1/4 cup to clean out the washer of past detergents. Then I again, followed directions and had only been using 1/8 of a cup per load. I didn't feel that that was truly cleaning the laundry, so I upped it to 1/4 cup per load. That did the trick, but left me unhappy with having to use twice the recommended amount. On top of that, I don't feel like the clothes smell that great anymore. They smell clean, but I do like smelling a hint of scent from the detergent while taking from the washer and placing into the dryer, and this has no scent at all. It's just kind of flat to me. So I'll be switching back to the liquid Biokleen, since that has a delicious scent and truly only uses 1/8 of a cup of detergent per load.

5.0 out of 5 stars best laundry soap ever!, April 12, 2010

I almost never write reviews for products because even if I love a product I don't care enough to take the time to write about it. So the fact that I'm even bothering to write a review should say something about this soap. This stuff is amazing! I originally bought it because my baby daughter has extremely sensitive skin and I had to start using cloth diapers to prevent diaper rashes. The cloth diaper company recommended this soap to clean the diapers. After I bought it I started using it for all of our laundry and I will never use anything else. I no longer have to use any fabric softener because this stuff leaves our clothes so soft --an added plus is that we don't have to worry about fragrances or the film that fabric softener leaves behind. Once I had fallen in love with this I ordered some for my mother in law, too. She recently told me that she has used it as a stain treatment by applying it directly to stains and that it has gotten out stuff that other stain removers couldn't remove. She's been buying this to give to her friends now, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to pump, great product, July 7, 2009
By
mknrchl (Pinehurst, North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Charlie's Soap Laundry Liquid - 1 Gal Jug - (128 Loads) (Health and Beauty)
I love Charlie's soap. I have been using it almost one year now. I bought Charlie's because I needed it for my son's cloth diapers. I can't use a soap that has any additives or the diapers will be less absorbent. I decided to use Charlie's on everything because I liked the results. I found the 1 gallon jug of Charlie's to be difficult to use because of the pump. Maybe I had a defective pump - or two(I tried two different pumps that both came with my purchase - directly from the charlie's soap web site), but I couldn't ever get either of them to give me the same measurement of liquid. Some squirts I would get a lot and some I would get a little. I ended up fighting with the pump so often and using more than I needed most of the time so I poured my charlie's soap into a regular squirt bottle and measured how many squirts I needed to get my prescribed amount. The problem was solved, but because of all the fighting, my 1 gallon jug did not last as long as it should have. After I ran out, I decided to try the powder. Charlie's laundry powder is much easier to measure and I find it less messy and less stressful. I do wish the powder came in a medium size. I wash diapers every night, so eighty loads of laundry goes quick. I do keep a small bottle of the liquid detergent handy for stains (great on carpet too). Charlie's is a wonderful product that gets out most any kid or pet stain without leaving a residue or smell! They just need to work on their pump design.
