Charlie's Angles, The Next Generation, September 21, 2011
This review is from: Charlie's Angels (Superbit Deluxe) / Charlie's Angels Full Throttle (Unrated Widescreen Special Edition) (DVD)
First of all, it's nice to have both of these movies in one set. They do go together. However, I must say that I enjoyed the first one "Charlie's Angels" (2000) more than the sequel, "Full Throttle". The first one was light, fun, and the story was intriguing...much like the original TV show of the 1970s. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed "Charlie's Angels". And having the voice of John Forsythe was a nice touch. I thought Bill Murray did a great job, too. However, in "Full Throttle" it appears the director and producer kept trying to one-upmanship themselves so that the movie has action that's not well tied to the story. The action is purely for the action and to show the girls in more and more extreme situations. Perhaps it's entertaining for the teenage crowd but a bit tedious for those of us who like a good story along with the action. "Full Throttle" could have been good; instead it's just....full throttle. The absence of Bill Murray in "Full Throttle" was also a diappointment. Bernie Mac is OK but it was a real streeeeetch to name him "Bosley." In addition, if you view the "making of" footage for "Full Throttle," the lack of emphasis on "story" becomes more apparent with the director's fascination with action, automobiles and such. The great cars, in any case, appear for only a few seconds in the movie. The "in-group" elements are lost on a general audience.

Heavenly!, March 28, 2005
This review is from: Charlie's Angels (Superbit Deluxe) / Charlie's Angels Full Throttle (Unrated Widescreen Special Edition) (DVD)
This second installment of the silver screen angels doesn't disappoint - what a ride! Three beautiful, kick-behind heroines in designer clothes, with ageless Demi Moore as ex-angel-turned-devil to destroy makes for two hours of fun. Think of it as "Speed" for chicks. The cameo of original tv angel Kelly Garrett (Jacylyn Smith) was an especially nice touch. Can't wait for number three.
