Charlie's Charts,
By
This review is from: Charlie's Charts of the Western Coast of Mexico (Plastic Comb)
You need this book AND the Rains book; you need both; while they are different, they compliment each other; last winter we cruised south from San Diego to Manzanillo via Cabo and Puerto Vallarta; in many respects, we like Charlie's better than Rains; but you do need both; the available charts and gps entries in Mexico can be way off; the sketches and gps coordinates in both books will keep you out of harm's way. If memory serves, there is a tricky entrance to Careyes about 100 miles south of Puerto Vallarta; we liked Charlie's treatment of this entrance better than Rains but you still need both. J. Houts

Descriptions of approaches offer the specifics lacking in many more general cruiser's guides,

Charlie's Charts titles by Charles and Margo Wood are so much more than your photo-filled cruiser's guide: they are invaluable take-long nautical references packed with practical anchorage experiences gleaned from the authors' cruising experiences, and should be in the boat libraries of any would-be cruiser to the areas. WESTERN COAST OF MEXICO INCLUDING BAJA appears in its twelfth updated edition and pairs facing pages of color photos with very clear, full-page sized diagrams and maps outlining latitudes, anchorages, recommended routes, and notes such as places for snorkeling, island tips with reefs and shoals, rocky beaches, and suggested routes. Descriptions of approaches offer the specifics lacking in many more general cruiser's guides.

Used this book for sailboat trip in Sea of Cortez. A bit dated, but very informative and worthwhile.
