This review is from: Charlotte Bakeman Has Her Say (Hardcover)
This is a great book for 4-5th graders. The story deals with prejudice and bullying in an unusual setting. Rural New Hampshire during the Great Depression provides the backdrop for young girls encountering discrimination among French-Canadian-American and other local families. The theme of overcoming shyness and personal assertiveness adds to the appeal for young women approaching adolescence. The illustrations are excellent and the cover colorful and indicing. I highly recommend this book for this age group.
