About the Author
Dr. Tom Hanchett is the staff historian at the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte. He has written and taught extensively about the South during the Jim Crow era. Ryan Sumner is the assistant curator at the Levine Museum of the New South. He located many of the historic photographs and artifacts that are on display in the Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers exhibit and that are now showcased in Charlotte and the Carolina Piedmont.

I highly recommend "Charlotte and the Carolina Piedmont".
We are moving to the Charlotte NC area from another part of the US. I bought this book to get the flavor of the "community". I got that and even more. The wonderful pictures and well written narrative gave me a concise, informative look at the Charlotte area's history. The pictures came from a wide range of museums and historical societies. Many of those places are in the Charlotte area, close enough for further exploration. If you are interested in the Charlotte area I am confident you will enjoy this book.
