Book Description

If only bedtime could walk the plank!

Charlotte Jane the Hearty gets all the juice out of her days with pirate-girl pizzazz! She loves swashbuckling sessions, treasure hunts, and Fantastic Feats of Daring—all of which prove she has formidable oomph. There’s absolutely no room in her day for bedtime. But can Charlotte Jane refuse to snooze and still be her hearty pirate self?

Editorial Reviews Review

"Monescillo's detailed and gently textured watercolors are full of insouciant pirate energy (Charlotte Jane's bravado is matched by that of her surly teddy bear, who wears an eye patch), and Wolfe's text has as much charm and verve as her heroine."—Publishers Weekly
"[This] bedtime story is satisfying, and casting a little girl as a pirate is downright refreshing."—Kirkus Reviews
"The use of dialogue and strong vocabulary results in a well-paced story that flows elegantly from beginning to end. The whimsical watercolor illustrations–accompanied by digitally created textures to add depth–are captivating, and perfectly complement the text. A generous helping of humorously entertaining pirate speak makes this an enjoyable choice for readers and listeners alike."—School Library Journal

My 6- and 9-year-old daughters (one of whom is named "Charlotte June") LOVE this book! Got it from the library, but decided to buy it after my sleepy Charlotte whispered, "Juicy sweet dreams, me bucko!" to me before dropping off to sleep one night. Adorable!

This is such a fun, spunky story!! I really like the variety of vocabulary ( ex: oomph, pomegranate) and that Charlotte is soo not a Princess!! The illustrations are beautiful and perfectly enhance the story :) I give this book as a gift any chance I get and everybody loves it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book! December 26, 2012
This is a great book for kids who don't love bedtime. It's about a girl pirate who fought sleep and won, and the consequences that followed. The language is just delicious and the illustrations are adorable. It is a big hit with my daughter.

I purchased this book for my grandbaby. I am SO pleased with it. The story is wonderfully thought out and my grandbaby loves it! What truly impressed me as well was the incredibly beautiful artwork in the book. The colors are rich and warm and very inviting, which is really important when reading to a smaller child (age 2). Praises for this author. I hope to see more from her and would suggest this book for anyone who wants a truly wonderful book for your child's bookshelf! Spread the news, this author is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleeping is for landlubbers! Or is it? March 16, 2012
Charlotte Jane is a pirate girl that is full of energy. She sees no value in sleeping! She would rather fill her days with adventures! She starts to go to bed later and later each night until one night she doesn't sleep at all. As she goes about her pirate duties the next day she starts to see just how important sleep really is! A great choice for those kids that battle bedtime, like Charlotte Jane.
