Book Description

October 15, 1999
Thousands of home educators benefited from the practical ideas contained in Catherine Levison's primer, A Charlotte Mason Education. Now Catherine takes an in-depth journey offering even more ideas for implementing the popular methods of Charlotte Mason into home schooling. In this concise and practical guide, Levison presents the key points of Charlotte Mason's methods as contained in her six-volume series. A perfect companion to her first book, More Charlotte Mason Education will continue to guide your family down an enjoyable and successful path of home schooling.

"Catherine [did] and excellent job of conveying Charlotte Mason's ideas in a user friendly format. Quoting frequently from Mason's work, Levison explains and clarifies Mason's ideas while also adding her own ideas resulting from her years of experience teaching this way in a home schooling setting. I found these books extremely practical and thoughtful."
--Cathy Duffy, author of the Christian Home Educators' Curriculum Manuals

"After providing an excellent "how-to manual" for the different school subjects in her first book, A Charlotte Mason Education, Catherine Levison has expanded on it in her new book, More Charlotte Mason Education. In this book Levison tackles some important issues that Charlotte Mason users encounter. My favorites include: What are the Liberal Arts? How Short Lessons are Applied and High School. She closes the book with helpful guidelines for further study."
--Maggie Dail, MA, Master Teacher of a Charlotte Mason School, Education Consultant of Master Enterprises Learning Center

"In More Charlotte Mason Education, Catherine shares at a deeper level...hints, practical how-to's, inspiring quotations, and the rich and uplifting philosophy for which this approach to education has become well known. She shares with us the depth of her understanding on the many aspects of education she has experienced. The section on coping strategies for crises shows me that she is speaking from what she has learned from the lessons of life. Not only does she empathize, but she makes me feel comfortable with doing what needs to be done just to live, while still nurturing my children."
--Tina Farewell, Lifetime Books & Gifts

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource., December 29, 1999

Usually I think of sequels as being less than the original.. but this is an exception to the rule! As much as I enjoyed Levison's first book, A Charlotte Mason Education, I found this new work even more helpful! Since my children are getting older, I really appreciated the chapter on CM and high school age children. Contrary to popular belief, this method CAN be done with older students! Other chapters of interest include: Short Lessons, Book of the Centuries, Curriculum Planning, Coping Stategies, Book Selection, Classroom Applications, Poetry, Math, Support Groups, Frugal Home Schooling, Avoiding Twaddle, and too many other things to mention. This book is definitely worth adding to your collection of educational books.

I was very pleased with this purchase. I devoured it within a few days, and every bit of the information was fresh and vital to me as a homeschooling mother approaching the highschool years. We have done much research on the CM method, but this book gives very practical and applicable advice about how to implement the principles. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has been my saving grace!, July 29, 2002

This review is from: More Charlotte Mason Education (Paperback)
After reading both books by this author on the Charlotte Mason methods of teaching, I feel competent and competent to now begin homeschooling. While I have read countless numbers of books on homeschooling and been given lots of advice on different curricula, etc. I never felt quite sure of myself or "what method to use." I first learned about this book in another book called HOMESCHOOLING FOR FREE. I was intrigued by this method of short lessons with lots of subjects. As a former high school teacher all of the advice seemed sound and full of common sense. I now look forward to having the structure and the freedom that was lacking in other methods. The focus on nature, short lessons, and classic literature are what attracted me to this method and I hope to one day read the original books by Charlotte Mason herself. Until then, I thank this author for showing me the way. Since reading about the Charlotte Mason method I have slept soundly knowing that I can school my son at home and do it well.
