An excellent resource.,
By A Customer
This review is from: More Charlotte Mason Education (Paperback)
Usually I think of sequels as being less than the original.. but this is an exception to the rule! As much as I enjoyed Levison's first book, A Charlotte Mason Education, I found this new work even more helpful! Since my children are getting older, I really appreciated the chapter on CM and high school age children. Contrary to popular belief, this method CAN be done with older students! Other chapters of interest include: Short Lessons, Book of the Centuries, Curriculum Planning, Coping Stategies, Book Selection, Classroom Applications, Poetry, Math, Support Groups, Frugal Home Schooling, Avoiding Twaddle, and too many other things to mention. This book is definitely worth adding to your collection of educational books.

More Charlotte Mason Education,

This review is from: More Charlotte Mason Education (Paperback)
I was very pleased with this purchase. I devoured it within a few days, and every bit of the information was fresh and vital to me as a homeschooling mother approaching the highschool years. We have done much research on the CM method, but this book gives very practical and applicable advice about how to implement the principles. I highly recommend it.

This book has been my saving grace!,

This review is from: More Charlotte Mason Education (Paperback)
After reading both books by this author on the Charlotte Mason methods of teaching, I feel competent and competent to now begin homeschooling. While I have read countless numbers of books on homeschooling and been given lots of advice on different curricula, etc. I never felt quite sure of myself or "what method to use." I first learned about this book in another book called HOMESCHOOLING FOR FREE. I was intrigued by this method of short lessons with lots of subjects. As a former high school teacher all of the advice seemed sound and full of common sense. I now look forward to having the structure and the freedom that was lacking in other methods. The focus on nature, short lessons, and classic literature are what attracted me to this method and I hope to one day read the original books by Charlotte Mason herself. Until then, I thank this author for showing me the way. Since reading about the Charlotte Mason method I have slept soundly knowing that I can school my son at home and do it well.

Catherine's Personality Shows Through,
By
This review is from: More Charlotte Mason Education (Paperback)
I heard Catherine speak at an all-day CM conference in Utah last year. She is a hilarious speaker; I was almost rolling on the floor during her presentation on habits. Catherine allows her personality and humor to come through in her writing of More Charlotte Mason Education. This book is more in-depth, more helpful, and more entertaining to read than her first book (which is still a good introduction to CM).

Best overview of Charlotte Mason methods and ideas available,
By A Customer
This review is from: More Charlotte Mason Education (Paperback)
I've been homeschooling for 10+ years and have been collecting books on Charlotte Mason's homeschooling methods for that long, as well. This little book is the best resource I've found for actually "doing" homeschooling in a Charlotte Mason style. It's not overly rigid or difficult to understand. Just pick a topic you want to do with your kids, open to that chapter, and you're off and running! I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who's interested in a child-friendly, learning-rich homeschooling environment for their home and school. I've also known several people who have been rescued from homeschool burn-out by reading, and implementing, this book. A+

Catherine Levison finally does a great job. I was very dissappointed with her first book, thinking it lacked information and flow. This one does a much better job, I enjoyed it very much and learned a lot about Charlotte and her methods and how to use them.

Nice lists, horrible editing,
This review is from: More Charlotte Mason Education (Paperback)
I was looking to this book as an expansion on Levinson's first "Charlotte Mason Education." While it does provide more "meat" than the first, I can't get past some of the glaring grammatical errors. Her misuse of the comma has plagued the first half of the book, to the point where I have to re-read sentences to figure out what the idea was supposed to be. At another point, she means to refer to a "vicious" cycle, yet she spells it "viscous." It is so hard to respect the information coming from one of the "Charlotte Mason experts" when she can't even proofread her work or find a good editor to do it for her. I'm not trying to be nasty, but I think it gives homeschoolers a bad name when books claiming that we "know how to teach our kids" are published and then contain so many glaring errors. I hope that future editions will correct the problems so that others don't lose respect for Levinson like I have. On the positive side, her book lists are excellent, and are an amazing resource for those looking for living books in each subject area. It is worth the purchase for that reason alone.

Whether you choose this method or not...,

More Charlotte Mason Education is a fabulous synopsis of what an everyday application of Charlotte Mason's philosophy and methods can look like in the home. This is a great amplification of the preceding title, A Charlotte Mason Education (I inadvertently read them out of order). This is an absolute must read for anyone interested in the practical application of these methods for REAL LIFE.

One of the books I read at the beginning of each school year,
By
This review is from: More Charlotte Mason Education (Paperback)
This is not a discussion or summary of Mason's works. It's more a how to implement her method. I love how it's organized. It has just the information I need without having to dig around.
I love this book and use it often. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in the Charlotte Mason method.

Worth Buying Twice!,
By A Customer
This review is from: More Charlotte Mason Education (Paperback)
I had to buy this book twice. I liked it so much that I recommended it and loaned it to a friend who never returned it. I purchased it a second time because I missed it so much. Very enjoyable reading with a great book list. I refer to it often along with "A Charlotte Mason Companion" and "Educating the Wholehearted Child." So go ahead. Buy two of each! Your friends will enjoy it/them too!
