This book contains easy to read summaries of all six books of Charlotte Mason's six-volume series, arranged chapter by chapter. This is not a free interpretation of the method, but a page-by-page re-wording for those who want to know what's in the series, but don't have time to read all six books to find out. It's great as an introduction to CM, or as a preview before reading the entire series, and useful for homeschool libraries or Dads who want to understand the method Mom is using with the kids.

This book is a homeschooling 'must have', yet, I found Charlotte Mason Summaries to be a good source of information not only regarding schooling, but in child rearing as well. It is a good source of information for all parents, even if they aren't homeschooling. The way the book is summarized, it is very easy to understand. I would recommend this book not just for a homeschool parent but for any parent.

Laurio knows whereof she speaks! What an indispensable tool for those who seek to understand and implement Charlotte Mason's philosophy of education, child-rearing, life. Mason's Original Home Schooling Series is a goldmine, but our 21st century minds sometimes need a little help in the translation. Written by one who clearly knows and loves her subject, this modern English summary clarifies difficult passages and condenses big ideas into user-friendly portions.

Format: Paperback
These summaries are indispensable! While Miss Mason's six volumes are fantastic and loaded with deep, thought-provoking, well-written childrearing and educational ideas, they require a lot of intense concentration and study to really be understood. But now, these meaty volumes have been neatly summarized by Leslie Laurio in one inexpensive book! The essence of the method is clearly delineated and while you can find these summaries online for free at the AO website where you have to scroll and click, it is much easier and very handy to have them in book form. I highly recommend this book!

I find the modern language translations of Miss Mason's writing to be easy to understand and true to the original intention of the writing. There are occasional 'asides' written in that obviously express Mrs. Laurio's opinions, but I find that they enhance the writing and make it somewhat entertaining! This is a great starting point to learning about Charlotte Mason.
