After a fire kills Elizabeth's parents, Elizabeth decides to journey through a dark tunnel within a cave to meet The Alliance, a group consisting of six representatives from each species - human, werewolf, vampire, witch, shapeshifter, and banshee. In spite of the fact that Elizabeth knows little to nothing about supernatural creatures, she's willing to become the Human Representative. Her assistance is very much needed. After all, the Alliance was started centuries ago to stop the goblins, a group of bloodthirsty creatures deadset on ruling and destroying the world. Unfortunately, the goblins are still going strong.

However, before Elizabeth can really learn about the goblins, she must first learn about what being a member of the Alliance entails. Of the six representatives, the vampire Milosh and the werewolf Romulus stand out, especially Romulus. The moment she shakes Romulus' hands and looks into his eyes, it's clear that there's chemistry between them. So it's only fitting that, as part of her new life as the Human Representative, she moves in with Romulus.

Charming Incantations is basically two plots in one. The romance plot is focused on Romulus and Elizabeth's romance; the action plot is focused on battling the Goblins. Their romance is very often the focal point. There are 3-4 battles, but I think this novel would appeal more to those who are into romance than action. I don't mean to spoil the ending, but even the conclusion is more focused on tying up romance issues than battle issues.

The novel's premise is really cool. I love the idea of creatures banding together to take out one deadly force. I love reading about intense battles.

Charming Incantations: Enticed tells the story of Lisa, a young woman whose parents were tragically killed in a fire, which thrusts her into a world she never knew existed: one with supernatural creatures that expect her to do her part as the surviving heir to the human representatives on a council that works to keep the world safe from darkness.
While the story provides a prolog explaining the alliance between the six races: human, werewolf, vampire, shape-shifter, witch, and banshee, the first chapter of this tale bypasses Lisa's initial realization of what she must do or the revelations she has that there is an entire world that has been hidden from her. Instead, her tale begins with her knocking on the door of the meeting place of the six representatives of the six races. There she meets the five other generals, or leaders of the armies that hold back the evil known as goblins from taking over the world. One of them, Romulus, the leader of the werewolves, will take her in and protect her from danger until she can be trained to protect herself and take over her duties as a leader.
Lisa faces a great deal of challenges, not the least of which is the fact that she is falling hard for Romulus while she is trying to grasp this new world that surrounds her. She fears these supernatural races but must come to terms with them all so that she can insure that her status as protector of humanity comes to pass.
This tale is part romance and part fantasy adventure. There is magic here, and I am sure there will be passing comparisons to Twilight, but this is a tale on a far grander scale. Lisa is learning about this new world as we learn about it, and is forced into battle even though humans are deemed the weak link in the alliance.

Charming Incantations: Enticed by Monique Snyman is one super novel! This young lady combines humans, werewolves, vampires, shape-shifters, witches, and banshees against the Evil that is the Goblins. I love how the heroine accepts her role as the Human Representative on the Supernatural Council without even knowing this was a responsibility she would one day embrace. Monique creates such a warm feeling of romance, fantasy, and magic. Look at the fantastic cover, get the warm fuzzies from viewing it, and then wham!: prepare for the peace to end throughout this great tale when the good life must fight evil. Ah, but Monique does return to the softer side often enough to balance the horror with warmth.

Not only is the story line fantastic, the author's writing style flows with well crafted prose, bordering on poetic styling. My kind of writing.

Buy this great book! You won't be sorry!

With this book the writer has definitely started something good. She does not hide the fact this is her first novel, but you can tell she has already found her feet when it comes to telling a story. There are parts that can be quite predictable but this does not hold the story back, and it'll leave you wanting much more. In a world where Twilight, True Blood and other PG-13 style monsters try to make us believe that monsters don't have to have an edge any more this book drags us back into a world where danger is back and werewolves and vampires have their attitudes back. Always respectful of who this story is based for (being a young adult book) it never goes too far for any parents worried about that. It'll be interesting to see where this goes.
