Charodan is by his own admission a 6th generation wizard, even if there were no wizards in his ancestry that he specifically knows of. The previous five he can trace were all witches on his father's side of family.
Born and educated in central Europe, he studied engineering and later spent his working life on three continents and many countries as a construction manager, management consultant, writer and motivator.
He didn't start his life as a child wizard. Until his late teens he only believed in science, in mathematics, logic, statistics, probability. But he stared to see that many events which were happening around him were statistically so improbable, that their existence couldn't be explained logically.
He then started to study supernatural phenomena, ancient witchcraft, worldwide mythology and Norse druidism. He was well aware of the history of witchcraft in his own lineage, and wanted to learn more about his ancestry. The deeper he delved into such subjects, the more he knew that he was on the right path. He could "work" the Magic. It was a great part of his being.
He can't tell if it is his genetic background, his inherited talent, or just plain luck of the draw, which predisposed him to being a wizard. All he knows, is that it works for him. He can feel and perceive what others can't. But of course, a big part of the belief in Magic is, that things happen for a reason.
Charodan practices natural, "unscientific", intuitive magic of the kind which was employed in Europe from the most ancient times. After it was almost stamped out during the Middle Ages, it lingered in secrecy in remote mountain villages and hard to access areas.
This old, basic, natural, primal Magic is not bound by any specific religious beliefs. It is the Magic of druids, herbalists, natural healers, diviners and intuitive spiritualists. It doesn't seek to explain how and why it works. It just does what it does.
It is closer to the Magic of Merlin tradition, or that of druid Getafix (from the Asterix & Obelix comics), than the Magic of Harry Potter, with it's dark undertones. There is no Dark Magic in what Charodan employs.
It doesn't embrace, nor reject any religion, teaching, practice or science. It accepts any supernatural events on their face value, on their merit, without trying to explain them or analyse them.
There might be some elements of ancient Norse and Slavic mythology and pre-Christian Pagan tradition in Charodan's practice of Magic, but he doesn't worship any pagan or other deities. He sometimes speaks of the Earth Goddess, or the Earth Mother, but he describes himself as a modern Pagan, not affiliated to any discipline.
So never mind what your religious beliefs or affiliation is, Charodan's Magic is compatible with it, because it comes from the Earth and from the Air, from the Water and Fire, from rocks and trees, from animals, clouds and thunderstorms.
If you believe in the existence of all of those, you can safely believe in, accept and practice Charodan's Magic.
