4.0 out of 5 stars Some useful odds and ends in a concise format, November 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Art of Chart Interpretation: A Step-By-Step Method of Analyzing, Synthesizing and Understanding the Birth Chart (Paperback)
This book presents guidelines for figuring out what the most important factors in a chart are; I didn't find that particularly helpful, but I did like the way this book fills in some of the gaps left by a lot of other beginning astrology books. For example, there's a short, great section on retrograde planets, which a lot of books gloss over. There's some helpful hints on minor aspects, and some interesting comments on lunar phases. The book does provide some help in looking at the chart as a whole, discussing patterns, dominant elements, aspects, etc. If you're starting out in astrology, this book could be a worthwhile addition to your toolkit.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most influential modern astrological texts., November 14, 2001

This review is from: The Art of Chart Interpretation: A Step-By-Step Method of Analyzing, Synthesizing and Understanding the Birth Chart (Paperback)
I was recently at an astrological conference, where a newcomer to the art said to me that she felt her understanding of how to look at a chart was completely a product of Tracy Marks' book. I told her, "I think most of us are." Very quietly, The Art of Chart Interpretation has become one of the most influential texts in astrology for the beginner. And most of us further along still use something like the worksheet suggested in this book. It's one of the best books out there, and fascinating even at higher levels. A MUST.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond planets, signs and houses interpretations, April 23, 1999
This review is from: The Art of Chart Interpretation: A Step-By-Step Method of Analyzing, Synthesizing and Understanding the Birth Chart (Paperback)
After having read quite a few information about what certain planets in given signs and houses aspected to others meant, I happened to find this extremely enlightening book that deals exactly with what is needed to start reading the other books: what your attention should be focused on in a birth chart. A must have even for beginners.

A small and simply written book that shows you how to interpret astrological natal, or birth, charts. Easy to understand and well-written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another solid entry from Tracy Marks, May 8, 2009

This thought-provoking book is primarily geared to students of astrology trying to make sense of all of the various components of a chart. But there is more than enough here to be of value to experienced astrologers.
The approach is very practical - with clear advice on how to identify the key components of a chart. There are checklists, and a number of worksheets for specific charts, followed by the author's thoughts, including a detailed analysis of one of the celebrity charts.
Even if you feel you know all you need to about chart interpretation, it's worth reading the book for the chapters on the counseling process. There are ideas and suggestions that any practicing astrologer could benefit from.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice for beginners, July 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have yet to come across an ideal astrology training book, because people have their own way of seeing things. So you need several books to gather a larger viewpoint on just one topic in my opinion, unfortunately. But this book is pretty good. It takes you one step further up the beginner ladder, once you've developed a very generalized ability to memorize the zodiacal symbols and identify what they mean in a chart.

She points out that not every aspect of a chart is necessary to interpret, but I'm still self training so I can't take anyone's word for that. It's a good book for study but I can't ascertain whether or not it is an essential book to for study. Wish I could be of more help.
