Editorial Reviews

Review

This is the first book I have ever read on anchor charts for 3-8 students. The charts are POWERFUL and really make an impact on instruction. I was lucky enough to watch Dr. Linder teach my own students, using two of these charts. the kids were glued to her! They used the chart as a visual aid and still beg for her to come back. Now, I create or refer to an anchor chart with every mini-lesson. If you aren't using charts with your students, you are missing a powerful instructional tool. Chart Sense can show you how!
-Natalie Casey, fifth grade teacher

Chart Sense is amazing! Roz takes all of the literature and informational text standards and shares tons of anchor charts that go with each chart. She includes lessons, book titles, and helpful hints for EVERY reading standard. This is my new go-to resource for teaching reading. It is simple, easy to use, and offers so much help. I wish I had this on the first day of school!
-Sarah Gladstone, middle school teacher

From the Author

This book has been such a labor of love! Each chart in this book was created with real students in real classrooms across the nation. I am so thankful for all of the wonderful middle school and elementary school teachers that let me into their classrooms to work with their students. The Common Core reading standards are made plain and simple for students through the use of visual aids. I hope that this book is a starting point for all reading teachers charged with simplifying and demystifying the standards.
-Dr. Roz

So, I am trying to tackle "Common Core!" Don't get me wrong, I don't mind CC, but unlocking/understanding the standards for myself AND making them accessible to general ed and special ed students has proved to be a difficult task. Well, Dr Linder has somehow found a way to turn Common Core into Common Sense. I have a copy of this book and her CC guidebook, and to be completely honest it is my go to when I am creating daily lesson plans/unit plans, AND I also use the resources when I tutor after school! Get this book, make HUGE versions of the charts, and watch your students refer to them! I even catch my students with significant learning disabilities referring to the charts... Good Job Dr. Linder...keep the books coming!!! Thanks.

This latest book from Dr. Roz Linder is a valuable resource to any classroom teacher. The systematic way she organizes the book is a true representation of how to scaffold readers in the classroom. The photographs provide a visual that ALL teachers want to see! Without a doubt, if teachers use this book to support their ELA standards the shared learning experience will support any type of learner. The instructional connection is clear to enhance the literary and informational standards. As a teacher who has used anchor charts for several years, the children feel more connected to the instruction they helped create. I can't wait to share this with fellow teachers!

Dr. Roz has done it again! Chart Sense is one of the most practical and helpful Common Core books available to classroom teachers. It is an essential part of my CC library and works hand-in-hand with Dr. Linder's other books on CC. This one breaks down each organizer into simple steps and makes it easy to apply to any lesson. It is a must have for any content area teacher!!

I purchased this book for myself, and just purchased another for our professional book collection at school. It is thoroughly aligned to and organized by the CCSS. I know the teachers I work with are going to be thrilled to have it as a resource.

I love this book! I am a first year teacher and this book has been a Godsend! I wish I had ordered it earlier in the year. At my school we teach using the Comprehension Toolkit. I found some of the lessons to be confusing for my kids. This book offers great alternatives to those lessons that I wasn't fond of. It is a really easy read (actually, you don't even have to read it. It's on of those great books that you can skim and find exactly what you're looking for.) Overall, this book is a steal for the price!!

I have nothing but praise for this book. The charts are easy to replicate and simple to understand. As an evaluator, I observe not only what the students are learning, but how they interact with their classroom environment. Students will love using these charts and referring to them during the English/reading blocks. Kudos on yet another book from Linder that offers real solutions for the Common Core.
