and the romantic nostalgia continues...,

This review is from: Chart Toppers: Romantic Hits of 60's (Audio CD)
Chart Toppers: Romantic Hits of the 60s gives us some classic romantic tunes from the 60s that still sound wonderfully sublime today. The quality of the sound is quite good; the remastering job was very well done. I also like the artwork.
The track set starts off with Henry Mancini's "Mon River." "Moon River" uses a lush musical arrangement to great advantage. "Moon River" still brings back many romantic memories even today for people who first heard this on the radio. I love to listen to "Moon River" over and over again; it's one of my favorites. In addition, The Shirelles do a marvelous job on "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" The Shirelles sing of a woman who wants to know her man truly loves her; and they never miss a note! The music is beautiful and "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" is another timeless hit. The Sandpipers sound so good on "Come Saturday Morning;" this "mood music" type of ballad impresses me with its natural beauty. Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" really lacks nothing--this tune is elegant and romantic with lyrics that reveal this comes from a more innocent era. Jackie DeShannon also scores big with her "Put A Little Love In Your Heart;" she handles the tempo changes well and the backup singers support Jackie very well. Paul & Paula weigh in with an adorable tune called "Hey Paula;" this romantic ballad also clearly comes from a more innocent era and I always smile whenever I hear this touching song. Brian Hyland also performs his classic "Sealed With A Kiss;" this makes me smile a somewhat sad smile because the lyrics aren't completely happy. Nevertheless, "Sealed With A Kiss" is another timeless hit and I love to hear it over and over again! Percy Faith & His Orchestra do an awesome job with their "Theme From `A Summer Place'." Percy Faith & His Orchestra turn in quite a romantic number! There's also Percy Sledge singing his heart out on "When A Man Loves A Woman." "When A Man Loves A Woman" uses the drums and percussion very well. Overall, this is a remarkably well done album of romantic, classic tunes and numbers from the `60s. These tunes are truly so classic that they still sound beautiful and fresh even today after all these years. I highly recommend this album for people who love classic romantic music and song.

It doesn't get much more romantic than this!,

Another fantastic volume in the "Chart Toppers: Romantic Hits" series. This time around it's the 1960s under the spotlight, and what a wonderful selection of hits appears here. Although "Moon River" was a lovely Henry Mancini instrumental, I'd have liked it better if the record company had used Danny Williams' vocal version instead. Nevermind as both versions are as good as each other. Another main instrumental is the equally beautiful (and romantic) "Theme From A Summer Place" performed by Percy Faith & His Orchestra. I implore you to buy this - or any other CD - which features this track as everyone should own a copy of this outstanding piece of work. Yes, it really is *that* good!Other highlights include, "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" (The Shirelles), "Dedicated To The One I Love" (Mamas & Papas), "Can't Take My Eyes Of You" (Frankie Valli), "Hey Paula" (Paul & Paula), "Let It Be Me" (Betty Everett - didn't Elvis once cover this?) and "Sealed With A Kiss" (Brian Hyland). Two other of my favourite tracks are used to close this compilation: Bobby Vinton's hauntingly beautiful, "Blue Velvet" and Percy Sledge's soul classic, "When A Man Loves A Woman". There are a couple of *lame* tracks too, it has to be said. Not to worry though, the next track you hear is guaranteed to be a great one! I recommend this, along with "Chart Toppers: Romantic Hits Of The 50s" too. Jon.

A lot of nice, warm memory-stirring songs. Really nice for those quiet nights at home with just the two of you. I like it.
