Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In the 1830s and early 1840s, Baptist preacher William Miller gained thousands of followers when he announced that the world would come to an end in 1843. He was adept at parlaying his message through books and copious pamphlets, and plied his audiences with detailed prophecy charts, mathematical tables and timelines. A century and a half later, Left Behind pedagogue Tim LaHaye (writing with Thomas Ice) seems to take a leaf from Miller's book in issuing Charting the End Times: A Visual Guide to Understanding Bible Prophecy. It has charts, illustrations and maps!.Its glossy, full-color format is light-years beyond Miller's, but the prophecy content is much the same. (Unlike Miller, LaHaye rather wisely does not set a projected date for Christ's return.) (Harvest House, $24.99 144p ISBN 0-7369-0138-8; Nov.)

Another popular series by LaHaye and Jenkins is The Jesus Chronicles. This four-book fiction series gives readers a rich first century experience as John, Mark, Luke, and Matthew recount thrilling accounts of the life of Jesus. Dr. LaHaye is co-author of another fiction series, Babylon Rising. Each of the four titles in this series have debuted in the top 10 on the New York Times best seller list. These are suspense thrillers with thought-provoking messages.

If you are interested in what the Bible (the Old and New Testaments) has to say about prophesy, I found this an excellent book. Charting the End Times manages to summarize the Bible in a easy to read book filled with many charts that help the reader visualize what is going on.
The book is not perfect - the authors don't go into as much detail as I would have liked. But the authors have other books that serve that purpose. And in a few instances, their logic is questionable. But all-in-all, it was very well done. This book is intended to clearly show what the authors believe about Bible prophesy. They do a very good job of showing what the Bible says and then distinguishing what they think it means. Readers can draw their own conclusions.
I'm fairly well-read on the subject and found myself agreeing with about 80% of the book. I disagreed with about 2%, and am still thinking about the rest... It is well worth the purchase price.

Tim LaHaye is the co-author of the Left Behind series and this is a very comprehensive chart book on the end times from a premillennial dispensationalist pretribulational viewpoint. If you agree with that viewpoint (which I do), then you would love this book. It is very detailed and has many wonderful color charts which explains O.T. and N.T. prophecies such as that of Daniel and Revelation. If you don't agree with the premillennial/ pre-trib viewpoint, you may not like it that much. But I believe that no matter which millennial viewpoint you adopt, you would still find this book beneficial and informative. I highly recommend it!

I just finished reading this book and I have to say how impressed I am with the format in which it is written. I found it very easy to understand and I come from a background of Pre-trib view (based upon the Word of God) and enjoyed reading from someone who was not afraid to state what he believes without having to conform so as not to offend.

Much like a great teacher, Billye Brim, Tim LaHaye reminds everyone that while the whole bible is for the Church, the whole bible is not about the Church and this book had a great focus on Israel and their place in end times prophesy.

I strongly recommend this tool for anyone who is new to end times prophecy and wants a crash course! You will be amazed at how much you will learn from this book.

The great thing about this book also is that Tim LaHaye backs up his arguments with scripture for everything. His LITERAL interpretation of prophesy is the way to go, based upon other prophesies in history that were literally fulfilled. The problem with looking for a metaphoric or symbolic meaning to prophesy is that it is too open to many interpretations and human error. God is indeed a mysterious God, but He does not do anything without first revealing it to His prophets and He reveals it in a way we can understand. Like a loving parent would be straight when warning their child, so God is when He warns us of things to come so that we can be prepared.

The fact that there are bible references all throughout this book means that once you do the crash course and simply read it through, you can go back and do further study yourself by reading all the bible references and cross referencing in your own study bible.

To sum up, I really do recommend this book. It can be a great help people at many levels of prophesy study.

Tim LaHaye and Thomas Ice do a great job hear in this book Charting the end times. Its really more then a book of charts although they are plenty of Charts included it is a book laying out the Bible prophecy's of the end time, in order; and laying out bible prophecy really from the beginning of time to the end time. The charts are a good size and easy to understand. The Book starts off the a standard dispensational chart. many Christians believe that God usus Dispensations (certain time periods) to deal with humankind. For instance we are in the dispensation of Grace right now, which followed the dispensation of the law which ended when Christ died for us. The book goes on to take a standard per tribulation rapture stand (although explains all views) and a pre millennium stance on the return of Christ (again although it explains other views as well) A pre millennium stance means that Christ comes back (his second coming) and seats up the millennium (a 1000 year rule of peace on earth). There are charts all along the way to help put into perspective each dispensation and each foretold event. The Whole book of revelation is also laid out in a chart. LaHaye and Ice prove out There Views with scripture reference (bible quotes) after scripture reference. This is a great book for anyone who is interested in Bible prophecy, may also be a good witnessing tool for non believers seeing that many prophecy's are coming true right in front of our eyes today and also this is a great book to have around for those left behind.

This book exceeded my expectations. I first had the Study Guide but this book is so much more detailed and attractive to read.
I am still discovering new things and learning a lot. For me the charts present an easy way to view and digest the information.
However, if the product details had explained that the book included a pullout version of the chart`Understanding God`s plan for the Ages`, I would NOT have purchased this as an additional item at the time I bought the book itself.
